1. Sushma Swaraj to visit Bangladesh

  • Sushma Swaraj will visit Bangladesh in September to attend Bangladesh-India Joint Consultative Commission meeting.
  • The meeting would review the implementation of decisions taken during the visit of Bangladesh’s PM Sheikh Hasina to India.

2. Mosque can be built at a distance from Babri site : Shia Board

  • It is asserted that Babri Masjid was a Shia property and only Shia Central Waqf Board was entitled to arrive at a peaceful settlement of the issue.
  • The Board told the SC that a mosque could be built in a Musilm-dominated area at a distance from the disputed Babri site at Ayodhya.

3. Goverment printing two kinds of notes : Congress

  • The Congress claimed in Rajya Sabha that govt was printing two kinds of Rs.500 and Rs.2000 notes and called it as the biggest scam of the country.
  • Congress leader Kapil Sibal claimed that different sizes of the notes were printed.

4. Dipak Mishra to be the next Chief Justice of India

  • CJI Jagdish Singh Khehar has recommende SC judge Justice Dipak Mishra as his successor.
  • Justice Jagdish Singh will retire on August 27th.
  • Justice Mishra will hold the office until October 2,2018.

International News

1. US Mayor lives as homeless man

  • The mayor of Salt Lake County in the US Sate Utah, Ben McAdams lived as a homeless man to get an experience in the country’s troubled neighbourhood.
  • According to McAdams, this is to understand the current homeless system before deciding the place for the country’s homeless resource centre.

2. China vows to pay most of the price for N Korean sanctions

  • China said it will go against economic interests for the sake of supporting international system of nuclear non-proliferation.
  • North Korea has 90% trade with China.

3. India, US conspiring to sabotage Indus Water Treaty : Khawaja Asif

  • Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif accused India and US of being involved in an international conspiracy.
  • He may refer to the World Bank which earlier permitted India to construct dams on the Jhelum and Chenab rivers despite opposition from Pakistan.

1. SEBI stops trading in 331 suspected shell companies

  • Market regulator SEBI has directed stock exchanges to take action against 331 shell companies and stop their trading for August.
  • These companies saw a total public float of RS.12000 crore.

2. Walmart heirs buy Rapha

  • RZC Investments run by Steuart and Tom Walton, grandchildren of Walmart Founder Tom Walton bought British cycling clothes brand Rapha for 200 million pounds .
  • Simon Mottram would continue to remain as the CEO of Rapha.

3. Hike in luxury car cess will affect Make in India

  • Mercedes-Benz India has said the GST council’s recommendation to raise cess on luxury cars from 15% to 25% will affect its plans
  • Roland Folger, Mercedes-Benz India’s CEO said that they feel deprived.

4. 56 executives at United Spirits made over Rs.1 crore

  • An HR consultant said when Vijay Mallya was at the helm of United Spirits, very few people were paid very high salaries, but now it’s being run more professionally.
  • India’s top consumer goods firm Hindustan Unilever’s 129 executives made over Rs.1 crore.

1. Jadeja world no 1 all-rounder

  • Ravindra Jadeja’s knock of 70 saw him edge out Bangaladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan to take top position among all-rounders.
  • He also gained 9 places to reach 51st rank among batsmen.

2. Federer spent nearly 6 years at the top of rankings

  • Swiss Tennis star Roger Federer has spent 302 weeks at the top of ATP rankings
  • He is currently ranked 3rd in the world.
