1. PSU Banks See a Profit Surge to Rs 34,774 Cr in Q1

  • In the initial quarter ending June 2023, public sector banks (PSBs) reported a remarkable profit surge, reaching over Rs 34,774 crore, effectively more than doubling their previous figures.
  • Comparative data from the previous fiscal year shows these banks had accumulated profits of Rs 15,306 crore.
  • Among them, Punjab National Bank stood out, noting a 307 percent jump in profits, scaling from Rs 308 crore to Rs 1,255 crore.

6. Cambodia Witnesses Leadership Change as King Assigns New PM

  • King Norodom Sihamoni of Cambodia has decreed the appointment of Hun Manet as the country’s Prime Minister.
  • This comes after the former leader, Hun Sen, who’s among the longestreigning global leaders, disclosed his retirement, favoring his eldest son as his successor.
  • This transition occurred post the recent electoral triumph, which was mired in controversy due to the exclusion of the primary opposition, the Candlelight Party.
