1. Pravasi Bharatiya Divas – January 9

  • India celebrates Pravasi Bharatiya Divas on January 9 to mark the contribution of overseas Indian community in development of India.
  • The day commemorates the return of Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa to Mumbai on 9 January 1915.
  • Established in 2000, it is sponsored by the Ministry of External Affairs of the Government of India and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), the Confederation of Indian Industries and the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region.

2. Women in Armed Force Service

  • Acc. to Minister of State for Defence Subhash Bhamre :-
  • Women constitute 13.00% of the IAF’s workforce.
  • Women constitute 3.80% of the Army’s workforce.
  • Women constitute 6.00% of the Navy’s personnel.
  • The Indian Army is the land-based branch and the largest component of the Indian Armed Forces. The President of India is the Supreme Commander of the Indian Army, and it is commanded by the Chief of Army Staff, who is a four-star general.

3. DNA Technology (Use and Application) Regulation Bill, 2019

  • Lok Sabha has passed the DNA Technology (Use and Application) Regulation Bill, 2019.
  • It seeks to provide regulation for the use and application of DNA technology to identity of certain category of persons that includes victims, offenders, suspects, under trials, missing persons.
  • It also seeks to establish a National DNA Data Bank and Regional DNA Data Banks

4. Swachh Bharat Mission

  • Under SBM (Grameen), over 5.4 lakh villages and 585 districts have been declared Open Defecation Free.
  • 27 States and Union Territories have declared themselves ODF.
  • Over 9 crore toilets have been built across rural India.
  • The national rural sanitation coverage up from 39% in 2014 to over 98% today.
  • The Mission is on track to achieve an ODF India by October 2019.

International News

1. 4th edition of the Raisina Dialogue

  • The 4th edition of the Raisina Dialogue started in New Delhi with a inaugural address of Norway Prime Minister Ms Erna Solberg.
  • Theme: “A World Reorder: New Geometries; Fluid Partnerships; Uncertain Outcomes”.
  • The Raisina Dialogue is a multilateral conference held annually in New Delhi. Since its inception in 2016, the conference has emerged as India’s flagship conference on geopolitics and geo-economics.

2. New President of Global Solar Council (GSC)

  • Pranav R Mehta has been appointed as the President of Global Solar Council (GSC).
  • He is the chairman of National Solar Energy Federation of India.
  • Global Solar Council (GSC):Headquarters: Washington DC || The Global Solar Council (GSC) was launched on December 6, 2015, following the historic United Nations Climate Change Conference (UN COP 21).

3. India’s new ambassador to China

  • Vikram Misri has been appointed as the India’s ambassador to PR China.
  • He has replaced Gautam Bambawale.

4. Global Aviation Summit 2019

  • Global Aviation Summit 2019 will be held in Mumbai.
  • Theme :- ‘Flying for all’

1. Tesla’s 1st factory outside the United States

  • Tesla has begun the construction of its Shanghai Giga factory.
  • Tesla, Inc. is an American automotive and energy company based in Palo Alto, California. The company specializes in electric car manufacturing and, through its SolarCity subsidiary, solar panel manufacturing.

2. Central Statistics Office’s Stats

  • In 7 years, Per Capita Income doubled from Rs 63642 per year in 2011-12 to Rs 1.25 lakh in 2018-19.
  • GDP during 2018-19 is estimated at 7.2%.

3. Kumbh JioPhone application

  • Reliance Jio Infocomm launched the Kumbh JioPhone application for Jio Phone Users.
  • A feature called ‘Khoya Paya’ that will help users stay close to dear ones by finding their exact location.

4. New Director General of the Sashastra Seema Bal

  • Rajesh Chandra has been appointed as the director general of the Sashastra Seema Bal.
  • Sashastra Seema Bal, in English the Armed Border Force, is one of India’s Central Armed Police Forces. It is currently under the administrative control of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. Prior to 2001, the force was known as the Special Service Bureau.

1. Khelo India Youth Games 2019

  • Maharashtra will host the 2nd edition of the Khelo India Youth Games at Balewadi Sports Complex in Pune.
  • More than 6000 Under–17 and Under-21 athletes in 18 different disciplines.
  • Khelo India Youth Games 2018 was held at Delhi.

2. Most capped player in Ranji Trophy

  • Wasim Jaffer has become the most capped player in the history of the Ranji Trophy (146th Ranji match).
  • Wasim Jaffer is an Indian cricketer. He is a right-handed opening batsman and an occasional right arm off-break bowler. He is currently the highest run-scorer in Ranji Trophy, surpassing Amol Muzumdar. In November 2018, he became the first batsman to score 11,000 runs in the competition.

3. World’s largest cricket stadium

  • World’s largest cricket stadium is being constructed in Ahmedabad with a capacity of 1,10,000.
  • The Melbourne Cricket Ground (Capacity: 1,00,024), also known simply as “The G”, is an Australian sports stadium located in Yarra Park, Melbourne, Victoria.

4. ATP Cup

  • Sydney and Brisbane have been nominated as the first two host for the newest team event in men’s tennis ATP Cup from 2020.
  • The Association of Tennis Professionals is a main men’s tennis governing body. It was formed in September 1972 by Donald Dell, Jack Kramer, and Cliff Drysdale to protect the interests of male professional tennis players, and Drysdale became the first President.
