1. ‘Year of Mobility’

  • Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) will observe 2020 as the ‘year of mobility’.
  • Year 2020 will have a special focus on the creation of more residential units and implementation of various welfare measures for the troops.
  • The Central Industrial Security Force is a Central Armed Police Force in India. It was set up under an Act of the Parliament of India on 10 March 1969 with a strength of 2,800.

2. Advisor to J&K LG

  • Former Director-General of CRPF Rajiv Rai Bhatnagar has been appointed as Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

3. Pravasi Bhartiya Divas

  • The 16th edition of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) is celebrated on 9th January.
  • It also commemorates the return of Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa to India on 9 January 1915.
  • The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas conventions established in 2003 by the Ministry of External Affairs.

4. Highest Inpatient Department care

  • Jammu and Kashmir has registered the highest Inpatient Department, IPD care in the country.
  • IPD refers to the areas of the hospital where patients are accommodated after being admitted, based on doctors/specialist’s assessment, from the Emergency Services, Ambulatory Care, and Clinical/Specialty Outpatient Departments due to their presenting and emerging medical condition(s).

International News

1. Global Investors Meet: ASCEND 2020

  • Kochi will host the Global Investors Meet: ASCEND 2020.
  • It will showcase 18 mega projects with over Rs 100 crore investment each and offering direct employment to over 9,000 people.

2. AK-203 assault rifles

  • Indian Army is to sign an MoU for the procurement of over 7.5 lakh AK-203 assault rifles with Russia.
  • The rifles will be manufactured by the Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited (IRRPL) at Korwa in Uttar Pradesh.

3. Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index

  • India’s rank in Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index of World Economic Forum has moved to 34th position.
  • Reducing E-visa fees, decreasing GST rates on hotel room booking and opening 120 new peaks for mountaineering are among the major highlights of Tourism Ministry in 2019.

4. Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth

  • Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla attended the Standing Committee Meeting of the Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) in Ottawa, Canada.
  • Om Birla is leading an Indian Parliamentary delegation — comprising of Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh and Lok Sabha Secretary-General Snehlata Shrivastava.

1. Shivalik Mercantile Co-op. Bank

  • RBi has granted “in-principle” approval to Shivalik Mercantile Co-operative Bank Limited for transition into a Small Finance Bank
  • Small finance banks are a type of niche banks in India. Banks with a small finance bank license can provide basic banking service of acceptance of deposits and lending.

2. Supervisory Framework for Urban Co-operative Bank

  • RBI has revised its supervisory framework for Urban Co-operative Banks (UCBs).
  • An Urban Co-operative Banks may be placed under supervisory action framework under the following conditions:
  • Net Non-Performing Asset (NPA) exceeds 6% of its net advances.
  • Capital to Risk (Weighted) Assets Ratio (CRAR) falls below 9%.
  • When it incurs losses for two consecutive financial years or has accumulated losses on its balance sheet.
  • RBI can take actions under section 35A of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.

1. 7th cricketer to hit six 6s in an over

  • New Zealand‘s batsman Leo Carter has become the seventh batsman in the history of cricket to smash six 6s in an over.
  • Gary Sobers (West Indies), Ravi Shastri (India), Herschelle Gibbs (South Africa), Yuvraj Singh (India), Ross Whiteley (England) and Hazratullah Zazai (Afghanistan).
  • Yuvraj Singh is the only batsman to have scored six 6s in an international T20I.

2. National Ice Hockey Championship Women trophy

  • Ladakh lifted the 7th National Ice Hockey Championship Women trophy.
  • The tournament was organised by the Ice Hockey Association of India (IHAI) in association with the Ladakh winter sports club.
