1. Ahmedabad declared as India’s first Heritage city by UNESCO

  • The 600 year old Walled City of Ahmedabad has been declared as India’s first World Heritage City.
  • Delhi and Mumbai were also among the race.
  • Ahmedabad’s nomination received huge support from 20 countries for the peaceful co-existence of Hindu, Islamic, Jain communities in Walled City area.

2. Home Minister Rajnath Singh assures Sikkim of safety of NH10

  • The statement comes as the Gorkha Janmukthi Morcha(GJM) planned protests against alleged killings of its protesters in police firing.
  • The shutdown in Darjeeling has reached Day 25.

3.Hyderabad’s youth on a high

  • About a hundred school going children in Hyderabad have been found to be addicted to LSD (Lysergic Acid Diethylamide), a narcotic drug.
  • The police caught three distributors and seized 700 blots of LSD and 31 grams of MDMA.

4. Defence Ministry names two former Army chiefs in Adarsh Scam

  • Former Army chiefs, General N.C.Vij and General Deepak Kapoor have been named for their complicity on Adarsh Housing Society scam in Mumbai.
  • The apartments were meant for the families of Kargil heroes.

International News

1.North Korea warns of nuclear ‘tipping point’

  • The U.S and South Korea staged a live-fire drill as tension grew after North Korea’s first Intercontinental Ballistic Missile Test.
  • The North’s state run newspaper said “The US, with its dangerous military provocation , is pushing the risk of a nuclear war on the peninsula to a tipping point”.

2. Iraq says forces are ‘tens of meters’ away from retaking Mosul

  • The operation to retake Mosul, Iraq’s second largest city began last October.
  • The militants currently hold less than one square kilometre territory but are using civilians as human shields which is hindering the US warplanes from attacking them.

3.India slams Pakistan for glorifying Burhan Wani

  • Militant Commander Burhan Wani was responsible for attacks against security personnel in Kashmir.
  • Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Shariff said his death infused a new struggle for freedom in the Kashmir Valley.

4. Remove barriers, reduce subsidies: Christine Lagarde

  • IMF Chief Christine Lagarde has asked the members of G20 to reduce trade barriers and subsidies to step up trade.
  • She called for urgent action to strengthen global growth and build inclusive economies while keeping away from complacency.

Business News

1 .India new global growth pole, to keep lead over China :Harvard

  • A study has been conducted by Harvard University’s Centre for International Development.
  • The growth projections say that India will feature on the top of the list of fastest growing economies till 2025.
  • The annual growth rate will be 7.7 percent.

2. Tesla Model 3 Electric Car to be out on July 28

  • Model 3 is a major step for Tesla.
  • It will be priced around $35000.
  • It achieves 215 miles of range per charge and is designed to attain highest safety rankings in every category.

3. IDFC, Shriram Group initiate merger talks

  • They have entered into a standstill agreement for 90 days during which they will evaluate the possibility of merging two entities.
  • Shriram City Union Finance is a non-banking finance company whereas IDFC Ltd is holding the IDFC Bank.

Sports News
1.Indian women hold South Africa in Hockey World League

  • India hold hosts South Africa 0-0 in their first match of the Women’s Hockey World League Semi Final in Johannesburg.
  • India will take on USA next.

2. Wimbledon 2017: Sania Mirza advances

  • Sania advanced to third rounds of women’s and mixed doubles events.
  • In the women’s doubles event, Sania and her partner Kirsten Flipkens will take on Martina and Yung Yan for a place in the quarterfinals.
