1. Priyanshu Rajawat’s Victory at Orleans Masters Super 300
- Indian badminton talent Priyanshu Rajawat, at 21 years, claimed the men’s singles title at the Orleans Masters Super 300 tournament.
- Rajawat bested Denmark’s Magnus Johannesen, finishing with scores of 21-15, 19-21, and 21-16.
- Carolina Marín of Spain secured her win in the women’s singles division.
- Other victors included Chen Boyang & Liu Yi of China in Men’s Doubles, Rena Miyaura & Ayako Sakuramoto of Japan in Women’s Doubles, and the duo Chen Tang Jie & Toh Ee Wei from Malaysia in Mixed Doubles.

2. Passing of Theatre Maestro and Akshara Theatre’s Co-Founder Jalabala Vaidya
- Renowned theatre personality and Akshara Theatre’s co-founder, Jalabala Vaidya, breathed her last at the age of 86 in New Delhi.
- The daughter of acclaimed Indian author and freedom fighter Suresh Vaidya and English classical singer Madge Franckeiss, her legacy in the theatre world is unparalleled.
- Jalabala Vaidya’s illustrious career was celebrated with accolades such as the Delhi government’s Varisht Samman, the Tagore Award from the Sangeet Natak Akademi, Delhi Natya Sangh Award, an honor from the Andhra Pradesh Natya Akademi, and the Honorary Citizenship of the City of Baltimore, USA.

3. MUDRA Yojana Marks Its 8th Year
- The PM MUDRA Yojana celebrated its 8th anniversary on April 8, 2023.
- As per government records, about Rs 23.2 lakh crore has been approved across 40.82 crore loan accounts under this initiative since its inception.
- Significantly, women entrepreneurs hold 68% of the accounts under this scheme, and 51% are held by entrepreneurs from SC/ST and OBC segments.
- Launched in 2015, the MUDRA Yojana’s objective is to provide easy, collateral-free micro-credit of up to Rs 10 lakh.

4. Historic Flight by President in Sukhoi 30 MKI Fighter Aircraft
- On April 8, 2023, President Droupadi Murmu etched history by flying in a Sukhoi 30 MKI fighter jet at the Tezpur Air Force Station in Assam.
- The flight spanned around 30 minutes, taking her over the scenic Brahmaputra and Tezpur valleys.
- Group Captain Naveen Kumar, the Commanding Officer of the 106 Squadron, had the honor of piloting the aircraft.
- President Murmu joined the ranks as the third President and the second female President to embark on such a flight, a testament to her role as the Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces.

5. Indian Rafale Jets to Engage in French Military Drill
- Indian Rafale combat planes are slated to participate in the multinational Orion exercise, orchestrated by France from the third week of April to May 5, 2023.
- The Rafales joining this event are expected to represent the Western Air Command of the Indian Air Force.
- The French Air Force, in collaboration with NATO and other allied forces, will conduct wargames using Rafale and Mirage-2000 aircraft alongside Indian Rafale jets.
