Article Summary

This article mentions that thanks to emails and SMSs, season’s greetings aren’t what they used to be. The author starts by talking about a card he and his wife received from their relatives and it was accompanied by a letter recounting the family’s doings over the past year, the trips they’d taken, the birthdays and other red-letter occasions they’d celebrated, the activities they’d engaged in over the past 365 days. The author really liked this card as it was a pleasant exception to the sad rule, which is that no one, or hardly anyone, sends out greetings cards anymore.

The author recounts how a few years back they received a lot of cards and describes how they took up space in his flat. But, all that changed completely, thanks to the coming of email and SMS. Cards have been replaced by Gr8 Nu Yr 2 u text messages and Facebook videos. The author sadly misses the earlier time as he feels that for all the undoubted benefits it brings, modern technology doesn’t always allow us to play our cards right.
