Word-1: Conglomerates
Meaning: A corporation consisting of several subsidiary companies or divisions in various unrelated industries.
Synonyms: Amassed, assorted, blended, clustered, massed, melded, mixed, motley, varied, variegated, etc.
Usage Examples:
1. Other conglomerates, particularly those looking for synergy, should be depressed by their mentor’s plight.
2. The growth of financial conglomerates, however, has caused insider dealing to be a more urgent and immediate problem.
3. Nine businessmen from eight top conglomerates are being tried for bribing Roh.

Word-2: Ordinance
Meaning: A law promulgated by the President of India only when the Indian parliament is not in session.
Synonyms: Authorization, canon, code, command, decree, dictum, direction, edict, enactment, fiat, etc.
Usage Examples:
1. It is against State law and City ordinance.
2. The ordinance, passed unanimously Tuesday, makes it either a misdemeanour or infraction to violate a park safety rule.
3. The Board of Supervisors passed an ordinance last fall to allow the new procedure.

Word-3: Countervailing
Meaning: Duties that are imposed in order to counter the negative impact of import subsidies to protect
Synonyms: Counterpoise, invalidate, neutralize, undo, nullify, counterbalance,
etc.
Usage Examples:
1. The U. S. is permitted to respond to subsidized imports where the elements of a subsidy are met under the countervailing duty law.
2. Now that the EU has launched anti-dumping and countervailing measures against China, will China consider lowering the export rebate rate or other actions?
3. If we are to enjoy global macroeconomic stability, a creditworthy set of countervailing borrowers must emerge.

Word-4: Neoliberalism
Meaning: A political and economic philosophy that emphasizes free trade, deregulation, globalization, and a reduction in government
Synonyms: Liberalism, left, leftism, left wing, socialism, radicalism, etc.
Usage Examples:
1. Neoliberalism is not responsible for all the problems of the world economy.
2. The politics of civil society: Neoliberalism or social left?
3. “Now, in many places, neoliberalism has been rejected because it was unsuccessful,” Garcia said.

Word-5: Coalesced
Meaning: If two or more things coalesce, they merge to form one thing or system.
Synonyms: Consolidate, fuse, integrate, unite, adhere, amalgamate, associate, bracket, cleave, cling, cohere, combine, commingle, commix, conjoin, connect, etc.
Usage Examples:
1. She coalesced opposition to land mines.
2. The developing-country bloc has coalesced in stages since 1964.
3. Indigenous peoples and conquerors gradually coalesced into the present-day population.

Word-6: Dissent
Meaning: An opinion, philosophy or sentiment of non-agreement or opposition to a prevailing idea
Synonyms: Discord, dissension, disunity, objection, opposition, protest, resistance, schism, strife, bone, clinker, conflict, contention, denial, difference, disaccord, dissidence, flak, hassle, heresy, heterodoxy, etc.
Usage Examples:
1. The present government is even less tolerant of dissent.
2. There are many ways of expressing dissent.
3. The teacher laughed at her dissent.

Word-7: Spearhead
Meaning: If someone spearheads a campaign or an attack, they lead it
Synonyms: Initiate, launch, prompt, spur, bring, cause, direct, guide, head, helm, influence, introduce, motivate, move, originate, etc.
Usage Examples:
I. He spearheaded the team to success.
2. A spearhead of tanks led the infantry attack.
3. What is the spearhead principle in swimming competitions?

Word-8: Imputation
Meaning: A suggestion that someone is guilty of something or has a particular bad.
Synonyms: Accusation, allegation, attribution, incrimination, insinuation, etc.
Usage Examples:
1. He resented the imputation that he had any responsibility for what she did.
2. The imputation that it was all his fault was unfair.
3. This paper analyses the imputation of responsibility of single subjects’ violation of law and responsibility sharing.

Word-9: Ramifications
Meaning: Several complicated and unexpected results that follow an action or a decision synonym.
Synonyms: Complication, consequence, upshot, bifurcation, branch, branching, breaking, divarication, division, excrescence, extension, forking, etc.
Usage Examples:
1. The political ramifications of shutting down Dagenham would be immense.
2. The legal ramifications of the Hains case are tortuous.
3. Given the serious clinical ramifications, most attention has been justifiably directed at determining whether antihypertensive treatments are carcinogenic.
