This article deals on how communication should be described as a hard skill as proficiency in a language doesn’t always help to determine how good a communicator a person is.The author starts with how communication has been looked at as a “soft skill” that relies on flourish and flair. But communication plays a crucial and indispensable role in our lives because the best thinking is no good if it can’t be absorbed by others. They believe that effective communication especially in the workplace is about being able to convey your thoughts lucidly so that the people being addressed immediately get what is being said.And also emphasized that we are poor communicators because we don’t reason, debate and question enough and to communicate and reason better we need to read.
Inculcating reading, writing, and, through this, reasoning as a habit is the only way to get better at communicating. The authors further explain this phenomenon and how it actually helps us . Along with this understanding one’s audience is the biggest aspect of communication and taking the time out to understand the key motivation, or set the objective, for a conversation helps establish a connect as it helps us to analyse what one requires from us.
The authors conclude that the best communicators are actually great listeners. Listening is actually a form of reading. It’s only through communication that you show your leadership, or experience somebody’s leadership. Understanding that communication is a very important part of our lives and an attempt to improve it can be one of the most important investment one can make.
