Kerala can now boast of hosting the first digitalized panchayat ward in the country.The unique distinction has gone to ward number 15 of Aymanam grama panchayat. Union minister of state for social justice and empowerment Krishan Pal Gurjar launched the website www.digitalaymanam.com at a function in the ward. The details of 423 families and 1,262 members in the ward are now available on the website. The Aadhaar number of each member has been linked to their mobile number. In any emergency ward members can also receive mobile alerts and voice messages.

The government has a new policy for HIV under which anyone who is tested and found positive will get the necessary treatment. HIV destroys the CD4 T cells in the body that strengthen immunity. As per the new policy, if a person is found positive, he will be provided with ART (Anti – retroviral therapy) irrespective of his CD count or clinical stage affirms the Union health minister JP Nadda. The government is also working on developing a National Strategic Plan for HIV for the next seven years that will be crucial for ending AIDS.

Tamil Nadu government honoured Padma Venkataraman with the state’s “Avvaiyar Award” for 2017. Padma a social worker, and daughter of former President of India, the late R Venkataraman,was honoured for her continuous service in the areas of women’s welfare and rehabilitation of leprosy-affected persons for the past 30 years. The award given by the Chief Minister K Palaniswami to Venkataraman, carried a cheque for Rs. one lakh, a gold medal weighing 8 gm, and a certificate. The “Avvaiyar Award” was constituted by late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in 2012 to honour women actively working in the areas of social reform, women’s development, culture, media, inter-faith harmony, and administration and other activities.

Aizawl FC is the new champion club of the Hero I League. It has defeated Shillong Lajong FC to win the 2016-17 I-League in Shillong, Meghalaya. Aizawl FC is the first north –eastern team to win the title. The Hero I League is a professional league of the association of football clubs and there are currently ten clubs contesting. It was first established in 2007 as the ONGC I-League, previously known as National Football League. The basis of operation is based on promotion, relegation with the I-League 2nd Division and also allows direct entry. Bengaluru FC was the winner of the 2015-16 title.

The Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Kazakhstan in India was inaugurated today by H.E. Mr. Bulat Sarsenbayev, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to India along with H.E. Mr. Suraj Shantakumar, Honorary consul of Kazakhstan in Chennai. India and Kazakhstan have completed 25 years of its diplomatic ties. The Honorary Consulate will provide help to citizens of Kazakhstan in the region and promote commercial and cultural relations between Kazakhstan and India.
