A BPO has assigned duty to nine operators -Aman, Baldev, Chandu, Dushyant, Elina, Foram, Golu, Heshav and Ishwar – on Monday, January 05, 2009 from 00:00 hours. Each operator commences duty at any of the following hour: 00:00 hrs, 04:00 hrs, 08:00 hrs, 12:00 hrs, 16:00 hrs and 20:00 hrs. At any point in time, at least one operator is required, to take clients’ calls. Each operator works continuously for eight hours. All operators located at any single location start work simultaneously. The operators took training in five different colleges – Abhimanyu College, Saurav College, GEC College, BITS College and Karna College. These colleges are located in the cities Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Jaipur and Bangalore, not necessarily in that order. The operators operate from the cities where their respective colleges are located.

Ishwar operates alone from a city other than Bangalore and Ahmedabad. Operator(s) trained in Abhimanyu College will start working at 12:00 hrs. Only Dushyant and Foram operate from Mumbai, but they are not trained in GEC College. Three of the operators took training from Saurav College, and they operate from Delhi. The operator(s) from Ahmedabad will start working at 0:00 hrs. Aman and Heshav operate together as a two member team from a single location. They do not operate from Bangalore. No operator(s) will join at 20:00 hrs. Baldev, who alone operates from his location, was not trained in BITS College, and will commence his duty four hours after the operator(s) trained in GEC College. The operator(s) trained in BITS College operate from Jaipur. The number of operator(s) trained in Karna College is same as the number of operator(s) trained in BITS College.

A. Operators took training from Karna College and operate from Bangalore
B. Operators took training from BITS College and operate from Mumbai.

A. The only operator working between 8:00 hrs and 12:00 hrs is Baldev.
B. The operators working between 12:00 hrs and 16:00 hrs are Baldev, Dushyant and Foram.
C. The operators working between 12:00 hrs and 16:00 hrs are Dushyant, Heshav and Foram.
D. The operators working between 16:00 hrs and 20:00 hrs are Ishwar, Dushyant, Foram, Chandu and Golu.
E. The operators working between 20:00 hrs and 0:00 hrs are Chandu, Golu and Elina.

Common solution for the set: Steps: Both tables are worked out simultaneously. Consider those clues first which connect City, Number and Names of operators and college for forming the 1st table. Since Aman & Heshav operate from a single location and since we know that all operators from a single location will work together, hence Aman and Heshav will form a team of two members. Also we know that Dushyant and Foram is a team and Delhi also has a team of 3 members. Hence we are clear that two locations have 2 members team while Delhi has 3 member team with other two cities having a member each operating from their location (2+2+3+1+1 = 9). Since Mumbai has Dushyant and Foram and Delhi has 3 members, we are left with Bangalore/Ahmedabad/Jaipur as places for Ishwar. From the first line, Ishwar will belong to Jaipur only and from second last line, we can say that BITS is in Jaipur. Since now BITS has a single operator, hence from last line Karna college will also have a single operator and the operator will be Baldev only since he is the only other operator who operates alone. Now only location for Aman & Heshav left is Ahmedabad (Since they don’t operate from Bangalore) while we can now place the remaining operators in Delhi. As Baldev is the single operator, he is in Karna College and the as GEC is not in Mumbai, the only place left for it is Ahmedabad. Now we have a complete following two tables-

Now after the above two tables are formed, the commencement time of each operator can be easily deciphered from the clues which connect operators with their duty commencement time. Since GEC is in Ahmedabad and it is given that Ahmedabad operators begin at 0:00 hours, and Baldev begins at 4 hours after GEC, hence Baldev will start at 4:00 hours and Aman & Heshav at 0:00 hours. Similarly Dushyant & Foram from Abhimanyu will work at 12:00 hours.

Also, no operator joined at 20 : 00 hrs.

As per the information given in the question, the following data can be concluded:

Answer 1: (A) Operators trained in GEC College are Aman and Heshav and they work from Ahmedabad. The correct option is (A).

Answer 2: (B) From the table, Ishwar took training from BITS College The correct option is (B).

Answer 3: (C) Note that these will be the operators that will begin at 16:00 hrs and hence will be from Delhi. Operators took training from Saurav College and operate from Delhi. The correct option is (C).

Answer 4: (E) Given that five operators are working between 16:00 hrs and 20:00 hrs. This is possible when Ishwar must have finished 8 hours of her duty before 12:00 hrs and therefore the team of Chandu, Elina and Golu must start working at 16:00 hrs to keep the round the clock operation. Option A is not necessarily true as there might be Ishwar who may have started at 04:00 hrs. Option B is not necessarily true as Baldev works only from 04:00 hrs to 12:00 hrs. Option C is not necessarily true as Aman and Heshav must work simultaneously at any moment of time. Option D is not necessarily true as the team of Chandu, Elina and Golu must work simultaneously at any moment of time. Option E must be true as Dushyant and Foram will finish working at 20:00 hrs and only the team of Chandu, Elina and Golu will be working between 20:00 hrs to 00:00 hrs. The correct option is (E).

Answer 5: (B) Option A is definitely true as at least Baldev, Aman and Heshav will be working between 04:00 hrs and 08:00 hrs. Option B is definitely not true as Chandu, Elina and Golu may start at 04:00 hrs and Ishwar might start at 16:00 hrs. So, there will be at most 6 persons (along with Baldev, Aman and Heshav) who will be working between 04:00 hrs and 08:00 hrs. Option C is definitely true as Chandu, Elina and Golu may start at 12:00 hrs and Ishwar might start at 16:00 hrs. So, there will be at most 5 operators (along with Dushyant and Foram) who will be working between 12:00 hrs to 16:00 hrs. Option D is definitely true as Ishwar as well as the team of Chandu, Elina and Golu may start working at 16:00 hrs and so there will be at most 6 persons (along with Dushyant and Foram) who will be working between 16:00 hrs and 20:00 hrs. Option E is definitely true as at least one operator must start working at 16:00 hrs to keep round the clock operation. The correct option is (B).
