The Article states that the SC’s decision to reject the government’s proposal regarding implementing 4.5% sub-quota for backward Muslim groups. It states that it doesn’t make sense to have a sub-quota in a quota. Further, the game of having quotas is an obsolete one in order to gain votes. Article states that as benefits are given to one group, it is obvious that the pool of benefits for other groups become smaller. Instead of generating more and more quotas, time has come that government should make policies that fits everyone.
Summary:
Reservations and quotas are against democracy, well, at least these should be. Everyone should be treated equally, irrespective of caste or creed. Of course, it sounds utopian, perhaps that is the reason for the existence of reservation. What really needs to be done is to make policies which do not discriminate.
