Article Name:‘The war for India’s internet’

By: ‘Rebecca Mackinnon’

Article has explored as to why government is blocking sites like Vimeo etc. Though there is also a political motivation to control, but more than that it is failure to maintain a balance between stopping crime, protecting children, protecting intellectual property rights etc, that sparks this and in response there are protests.

Summary:

It is true that somewhere there is a motivation to control what people say and share with each other, after all a revolution can be sparked right off Facebook. But, a benefit of doubt, perhaps government is trying to protect children from online predators and also trying to stop hate speech, which in the larger picture can spark off riots.
