The article states that India, the world’s largest democracy is shutting down various websites across the country and in this response protests are being organised across the country, as internet users in India believe that their right to free expression and online privacy is being violated by all these laws and regulations. Article has explored as to why government is blocking sites like Vimeo etc. Though there is also a political motivation to control, but more than that it is failure to maintain a balance between stopping crime, protecting children, protecting intellectual property rights etc, that sparks this and in response there are protests.

It is true that somewhere there is a motivation to control what people say and share with each other, after all a revolution can be sparked right off Facebook. But, a benefit of doubt, perhaps government is trying to protect children from online predators and also trying to stop hate speech, which in the larger picture can spark off riots. But perhaps it is more complicated.
