Recommendation 1 from ‘The New York Times’

Article Name:‘She has a pimp’s name etched on her’

By: ‘Nicholas D. Kristof’

The article is talking about the tattooing of pimp’s name on to the girls who are sold into prostitution. Such branding is done to clearly indicate that these girls or women are for sale. It also indicates that such women/girls should be treated as victims and not criminals. Further, this consciousness is spreading and consequently there are efforts that are being made to tackle sex trafficking. Many states have passed more than 40 laws relating to human trafficking . Further, President Obama is also said to be planning an initiative on the issue of trafficking. And the writer is hoping that this initiative will make trafficking a higher federal priority and will also treat teenage girls as victims rather than criminals.

Summary:

Trafficking should be a priority in every society and every system. If a society cannot save its women, then how does it claim to fight any other evil. All these rise from our values and if in one case values are skewed and we are not able to save our women then there are chances that in another case too, battle to fight other such evils will also be useless. There has to be overall development on all the issues, we cannot leave out one and work on another.

Recommendation 2 from ‘The Guardian’

Article Name:‘Why the rage over IVF?’

By: ‘Muriel Gray’

The article states that National Institute of Health and Clinical excellence had recommended the extension of NHS IVF fertility treatment to omen aged between 40 and 42. However, instead of the support for the recommendation, there is a furore over the recommendation. People are saying that non-life threatening life conditions have no place in the NHS. However, writer argues that if there is a problem, which has a solution in the medical science then who are we to object it?

Summary:

It is correct! Who are we to object if a condition can be treated? Things like these have to be treated on unbiased grounds. Whatever the reason for people not opting for children earlier and then going for the treatment, none of the reasons should come in a way of giving this treatment.

Recommendation 3 from ‘The Times of India’

Article Name:‘Price hike: Extortion of common man ‘

By: ‘Rajesh Kalra’

Article states that the price hike in petrol is nothing, but an extortion of the common man and not the government who makes the policies because either they have already taken so much from the system that it cannot affect them or they depend on the government for their petrol bills too. In these cases too its the common man who pays the taxes, which in a way pays for the bills. Further, there is no stopping the politicians from misusing the privileges given to them. Article states that their petrol bills can almost be halved if the cars are not misused.

Summary:

It is a fact that. How many IAS, IPS officer you know who use their own vehicles for everything else other than work? Well, surely there are plenty. Politicians and officials should be asked to pay all the bills from their salaries from now on. That will be fair. And the only way to ensure that it shouldn’t be the common man alone who bears the price of it all.
