Recommendation 2 from ‘The Independent’

Article Name:‘The dark side of Dubai’

By: ‘Johann Hari’

The article has elaborated in words the darker side of Dubai as the title suggests. Article states that there are three different Dubais built for three different type of people one for people like Karen (a character in the article who has been living in a parking lot in a range rover, as they could not pay off their debts), one for Emiratis headed by Sheikh Mohammed and then there is an underclass of foreigners who build the city and now are trapped there. As you read the article you will literally see the pictures in the words used to create a gripping narration.

Summary:

Dubai, a city of dreams for places like India, Pakistan and etc. It just proves that everything is not the way it seems from far off place. Realities are much different than what they appear in glossy magazines. Story of Karen is moving and just shows how laws are different there and moreover Dubai doesn’t seem fit for people coming from liberal democracies.

Recommendation 3 from ‘The Economic Times’

Article Name:‘Meet Gurgaon’s new breed of milkmen promising healthy milk from quality cattle’

By: ‘Mamta Sharma’

The article talks about how traditional notion of milkmen is about to go out of the window with new entries into the business of milk who are promising the customers to deliver fresh milk from the dairy. One such example is that of Capt Sanjay Sharma who entered the business in 2011. His company delivers fresh milk to 300 customers at the rate of Rs 40 per litre. According to Capt Sharma, people can surely spend something extra on fresh milk. Fresh milk here means that is delivered to the customer within 2-3 hours of milking the cow. Further, it is unadulterated too unlike the milk delivered by milkman. With best breed of cows kept there to be milked and machines kept to ensure hygienic environment, it is the new breed of milkmen.

Summary:

It means that soon, 5-6 years down the line the profession of milkman is in danger of perishing with the advent of machined milk dairies. It also means that they will have to look for new business opportunities or merge themselves in this sort of milk market, which may or may not be possible. Of course, we have the benefit of hygienic milk, but do we also have the danger of raising unemployment in this traditional sector too?
