Recommendation 1 from ‘The Times of India’
Article Name:‘Women and men at work’
By: ‘TOI’
Yes, women try to do everything flawlessly, to say brilliantly well. However, agreeing with the article, this zeal has been taken too far with the recent railway budget fiasco and everything that followed it. However, disagreeing, the same thing would have been done by any other authoritarian male too. It is just that Mamata Banerjee took the zeal for flawlessness in a wrong manner by humiliating Trivedi.
Summary:
The article begins with a praise about women that her zeal for flawlessness motivates her to even undo the chores that her male counterparts have done not so perfectly. However, in the same breath the article cleverly derides the zeal for flawlessness by citing the recent example of Mamata Banerjee re-doing the entire railway budget by pushing the appointment of a new railway minister. Then the article goes on to quote a study where it was found that men are unable to think straight when women are around. So, the article cites this study as a reason for Trivedi not staying focussed on the party line set by Mamata Banerjee.

By: ‘Chetan Bhagat’
The recent failure of leaders like Mayawati and Rahul Gandhi is nothing but a sign of hope for the people of India. It also demonstrates that people are beginning to become aware of their rights and above all human values, as caste is slowly beginning to play less role in Indian politics the way it used to. And, the criteria listed by the writer are exactly what not only the youth but all of us should focus on only then a change will be ushered in.
Summary:
The article states that there is a stereotype in Indian politics that sets the politician in a manipulative role, more like a villain. However, the writer states that things seem to be changing now, as manipulative leaders like Mayawati and Rahul Gandhi could not garner support, instead new faces are emerging on the scene and there still has remained a breed of politicians that were never known for their Machiavellian politics. And as the article states it is a good thing for Indian politics. Further, the article goes on to state the three probable criteria that have surfaced according to which GenNext is likely to evaluate politicians like moral stance and element of governance.

Recommendation 3 from ‘The NY Times’
Article Name:‘Shot to death in Florida’
By: ‘Editorial’
It is a fact by law in most countries that if a person is feeling threatened he can use a weapon in self-defence. However, in this case if teenager could be a threat enough to be shot, then every person walking on the street could be. Of course, not knowing the other side of the story, like no one does, but such a law is nothing, but an increased threat to people.
Summary:
The article talks about the death of a teenager.Trayvon Martin was shot by a self-appointed neighbourhood watch captain in Florida when the former was walking home one night with a snack in hand. He was then shot by Mr. Zimmerman for whom the shooting was justified under the law that allows people to shoot in self-defence even in public. And, as expected, such a law is inviting criticism from one part of the society, but at the same time there is a section that is lobbying the same law. However, the article states that such a law is nothing, but an abomination that should be repealed, as with such a law justifiable homicides have tripled in Florida.
