A person, especially an orator or political leader, who gains power and popularity by arousing the emotions, passions, and prejudices of people is called a demagogue. Hitler, as illustrated here, is infamous for his brainwashing millions of Germans into Nazi propaganda.

A demagogue is a very powerful position, for it can make or break life’s and change the course of history forever. Dictators like Pervez Musharaf, Saddam Hussein etc can be rightly called demagogues.

Demagogue has the following dictionary definitions:
1. A leader of the people.
2. To treat or manipulate (a political issue) in the manner of a demagogue; obscure or distort with emotionalism, prejudice, etc.

Master tips for demagogue:
demo+agog—in democracy demo means people, agog means highly excited and curious People who are excited and provoked by a leader. Thus demagogue refers to a person who speaks to a group of highly excited and curious people to insight them for political gain.

Usages of Demagogue:
1. He was dismissed as a radical demagogue.
2. The president will demagogue Medicare, unwilling to acknowledge that fundamental reforms need to be made.
