There is a dive in the swimming pool and then there is a nosedive. Not quite the same things, are they? The only thing common between them is the descent, one does fall from a pedestal for sure. A nosedive is sharp drop or plunge, the kind aircraft’s make. If one’s future has taken a nosedive, then the alarm bells would ring for sure, wouldn’t they? (the reference to alarm bells here is with regards to danger).
