Meaning of Surmise:

1. to think or infer without certain or strong evidence
2. a matter of conjecture.
3. an idea or thought of something as being possible or likely.
4. guess

Master’s tip to learn Surmise:

Just like SUMMARIZE, SURMISE means to infer something. The basic difference between both is that, to summarize means- a brief inference of a long passage etc. but surmise is to suspect the situation on the basis of observed conditions- may or may not be true.

Sentence examples of Surmise:

1. From the looks on their faces, I surmised that they had an argument.
2. I surmise that the criminal left through this escape tunnel.
