Question 1: If 60% of A = ¾ of B then A : B is
(a) 9 : 20
(b) 20 : 9
(c) 4 : 5
(d) 5 : 4

Answers and Explanations

Question 2: If 2/3 of A = 75% of B = 0.6 of C, then A : B : C is equal to

(a) 9 : 8 : 10
(b) 8 : 9 : 10
(c) 3 : 4 : 5
(d) 4 : 3 : 5

Answers and Explanations

Answers: (a)

Given, 2/3 of A = 75% of B = 0.6 of C

(A x 2)/3 = (B x 75)/100 = (C x 6)/10

= 2A/3 = 3B/4 = 3C/5

Dividing by 6 (LCM of 2 , 3 and 3)

A/9 = B /8 = C/10

∴A : B : C = 9 : 8 : 10

Question 3: Out of his income Mr Raj spends 20% on house rent and 70% of the rest on household expenditure. If he saves Rs 3600 per month, then his total income per month (in Rs) is

(a) 10000
(b) 15000
(c) 10500
(d) 12000

Answers and Explanations

Solution: (b)

Let the total income of Mr Raj be Rs p

He spends 20% of income on house rent = 20% of p = (20/100) x p = 0.20p

Remaining income = (p – 0.2p)= Rs. 0.8p

Now he spends 70% of remaining 0.8p on household items, so he is left with 30% of 0.8p =

(30/100) x 0.8p = 0.24p

Given that 0.24p = 3600

Þ x = 3600/0.24 = Rs 15000

Question 4: Kishan spends 30% of his salary on food and donates 3% in a Charitable Trust. He spends Rs. 2310 on these two items, then total salary for that month is

(a) Rs 6000
(b) Rs 8000
(c) Rs 9000
(d) Rs 7000

Answers and Explanations

Solution: (d)

Let the salary of Kishan be Rs. p.

Total expenditure in percentage = 30+3 =33%

According to the question, 33% of p = Rs 2310

p = (2310 x 100)/33 = Rs. 7000

Question 5: A saves 20% of his monthly salary. If his monthly expenditure is Rs 6000, then his monthly
savings is.
(a) Rs 1500
(b) Rs1800
(c) Rs1200
(d) Rs4800

Answers and Explanations

Solution: (a)

If the monthly income of A is Rs. p, then

Saving = 20% of x and expenditure = 100 – 20 = 80% of p

Now, (p x 80)/ 100 = 6000 (given)

=> p = (6000 x 100)/80 = Rs. 7500

Savings = 7500 – 6000 = Rs 1500
