1. Mobile Tihar Scheme
- Chhattisgarh Government launched ‘Mobile Tihar’ scheme which is a smartphone distribution scheme.
- This scheme is launched under Sanchar Kranti Yojna.
2. Investors’ Conference for the Holistic development of Islands
- NITI Aayog will host Investors’ Conference for the Holistic development of Islands on August 10, 2018.
- Amitabh Kant(CEO of Niti Aayog) will inaugurate the Conference.
3. Homoeopathy Central Council (Amendment) Bill 2018
- Lok Sabha has passed the Homoeopathy Central Council (Amendment) Bill 2018. It will replace the Central Council of Homoeopathy with a board of governors.
- This bill is aimed at bringing accountability and quality in homeopathy education system.
4. Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill, 2018
- Lok Sabha has passed Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill, 2018.
- This bill is about death penalty for those convicted of raping girls below the age of 12 years.
International News
1. Strategic Trade Authorisation-1 (STA-1) country status for India
- US upgraded Status of India To STA-1 to comfort export Controls to have High-Tech product sales.
- The STA-1 list currently comprises 36 countries in total. India is the only South Asian country to feature on the list.
2. 11th World Hindi Conference Mauritius
- Vishwa Hindi Sammellan will be held at Mauritius’ Port Louis.
- The conference will starts from 18-20 August at Swami Vivekananda International Conference Center,Port Louis.
3. United Nations E-Government Development Index
- India is at 96th rank in the United Nations E-Government Development Index (EGDI) 2018.
- Denmark topped the 2018 E-Government Development Survey which is released by the United Nations in every two years.
4. Hun Sen expected to serve another term
- Ruling Prime Minister Hun Sen expected to serve another term as Cambodia’s ruling party CPP (Cambodian People’s Party) has won the election.

1. India’s Most Valuable company
- Reliance Industries Limited beat Tata Consultancy Services to become the most Valuable company.
- Reliance Industries Limited is an Indian conglomerate holding company headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. Reliance owns businesses across India engaged in energy, petrochemicals, textiles, natural resources, retail, and telecommunications.
2. Paytm Payments Bank CEO has resigned
- Renu Satti has resigned from the position of CEO.
- Payments banks is a new model of banks conceptualised by RBI. These banks can accept a restricted deposit, which is currently limited to ₹1 lakh per customer. These banks cannot issue loans and credit cards. Both current account and savings accounts can be operated by such banks. Payments banks can issue services like ATM cards, debit cards, net-banking and mobile-banking. Bharti Airtel set up India’s first live payments bank.
3. New Repo Rate is 6.5%
- Reserve Bank of India has increased the Repo rate by 25 basis points for the second time in a row to 6.5%.
- Repo rate is the rate at which the central bank of a country (Reserve Bank of India in case of India) lends money to commercial banks in the event of any shortfall of funds. Repo rate is used by monetary authorities to control inflation.
4. E-Aksharayan Software
- Govt. has launched E-Aksharayan Software.
- e-Aksharayan is an optical character recognition engine for Indian languages. Some of research work from e-Aksharayan has been published in different conferences and journals.

1. WSF-World Junior Squash team championship
- Egypt defeated England in WSF-World Junior Squash team championship.
- WSF-World Junior Squash team championship was held in Chennai, India.
2. 1,000 Test matches playing Nation
- England is the only 1,000 Test matches playing Nation.
- The England cricket team represents England and Wales in international cricket. Since 1 January 1997 it has been governed by the England and Wales Cricket Board.
3. Kim Jong-un to attend Asian Games
- Indonesia invited North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to attend the opening ceremony of Games.
- The Asian Games, also known as Asiad, is a continental multi-sport event held every four years among athletes from all over Asia. The Games were regulated by the Asian Games Federation from the first Games in New Delhi.
