National News

1.India signed 8 MoUs with Oman.

• India and Oman have signed eight MoUs in different areas during PM Modi’s maiden visit to the Gulf nation.
• The fields in which the agreements were inked include defence, health and tourism.

2.Minorities panel chief urged Muslims to give up Ayodhya land.

• Syed Ghayorul Hasan Rizvi, National Commission for Minorities, urged Muslims to give up Babri Masjid and the disputed land in Ayodhya to Hindus for the construction of Ram Mandir.
• He said, “Since Namaaz is no longer offered. The place holds great significance for the Hindu community, but not for us.”

3.The Union Cabinet cleared direct admissions to PhD in IITs and IISc.

• The Union Cabinet has cleared the proposal allowing direct admissions to PhD programmes in IITs and IISc under the Prime Minister Research Fellowship scheme.
• This will allow graduates or final-year students of B Tech, integrated M Tech or MSc in the field of science and technology to be offered direct admissions to pursue PhD in IITs & IISc.

4.10 city-plan to clean Ganga and to check sewage flow drafted by Centre.

• A plan to check the flow of sewer water into the river Ganga has been drafted by Center by installing sewage treatment plants(STP) in 10 major cities.
• Reportedly, 65% of the total polluted water come flowing into the river Ganga from these ten cities.

International News

1.‘Battle of Oranges’ organized in Italy.

• The event ‘Battle of Oranges’ was organized in the Italian town Ivrea. Around 500 tonnes of Sicilian oranges were used in the event.
• This event involves participants, throwing oranges at each other in a reenactment of a rebellion against tyrannical lords who ruled Ivrea in the middle ages.

2.US planning to privatise International Space Station.

• The US is planning to turn the International Space Station(ISS) into a private enterprise and stop funding it after 2024, according to Washington Post.
• The ISS is currently operated by Boeing on behalf of US space agency NASA.

3.WWII bomb has been discovered.

• The discovery of WWII bomb in the close vicinity of the river Thames has resulted in shut down of the London city airport.
• The bomb was discovered at the King George V dock, close to London’s central airport.

4.7 Mexican states put on alert over a stolen radioactive device.

• Seven Mexican states have been put on alert after a nuclear densometer was stolen from a vehicle belonging to an engineering firm in the state of Guanajuato.
• Mexican authorities said that it could be used to make a “dirty bomb”.

Business News
1.India’s leap in Ease of Doing Business unprecedented: India PM.

• India’s leap in World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business rankings from 142 to 100 is “unprecedented”, said PM Narendra Modi while speaking at the World Government Summit in Dubai.
• He further said that we want to do better than this and will do whatever it takes to make it possible.

2.Arab states should slash spending: IMF chief.

• Christine Lagarde, IMF Chief, has urged Arab countries to slash public wages and subsidies to curb spending, achieve sustainable growth and create jobs.
• She warned that higher growth and stringent reforms were needed to create jobs for young Arabs.

3.Ikea opens distribution centre in Pune.

• Ikea, Swedish furniture giant, has opened a Rs.100 crore distribution centre spread over 2.3 lakh square feet in Pune.
• The distribution centre will service its first store in India scheduled to be opened in Hyderabad this year.

4.Govt saved Rs.56k Cr through Aadhar enabled DBT: PM Modi.

• PM Modi said that the Union government has saved Rs.56,000 crore through Aadhar-enabled Direct Benefit Transfer(DBT) of about 400 government schemes.
• He further said that India is going through a revolution in digital payment space and moving towards a less cash economy at a fast space.

Sports News
1.Rohan More became the First Asian to swim across seven oceans.

• Rohan More is the youngest to complete this task. He swam across the Cook Strait between North and South Islands of New Zealand in 8 hours and 37 minutes.
• With this, More becomes only the ninth person in the world to complete it.

2.Saurav Ghoshal wins 2nd squash title in 4 months.

• Saurav Ghoshal defeated Nicolas Mueller to win his second squash title in four months.
• The World No.14 won the match 11-9, 5-11, 6-11, 11-7, 12-10 to claim the Vedanta Indian Open Squash.

3.Serena Williams loses in 1st competitive match since giving birth.

• 23-times Grand Slam champion Serena Williams lost on her return to competitive tennis after giving birth last year.
• Serena played alongside her sister Venus Williams in a doubles match at Fed Cup.
