1. 11 CMs in India face criminal cases : ADR report

• Of the 31 chief ministers of states and union territories in India, 11 have declared criminal cases against them.

2. Triple Talaq bill is anti-women : Muslim personal law body

• The board’s secretary said that the bill, which was passed in the Lok Sabha is against Sharia taws and the Constitution.

3. Ex-Nagaland CM declared elected unopposed before polls

• Former Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio, the chief ministerial candidate of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party has been declared elected unopposed before the polls set for Feb 27th .
• This comes after the only other candidate withdrew his nomination.

International News

1. Pak lists Hafiz Saeed’s JuD a terror outfit

• The move designates 26/11 Mumbai terror attack mastermind Hafeez Saeed-led groups JuD and FIF as terror outfits.
• They were earlier not banned by Pakistan.

2. Trump unveiled $1.5 tn plan for boosting infrastructure

• The plan includes $18 bn over two years to build US’ border wall with Mexico.
• It also allocates over $23 bn for border security and immigration enforcement among others.

3. ISIS chief Baghdadi severely wounded in air strike : Iraq

• Iraq’s intelligence agency revealed that Abu bakr al-Baghdadi is severely wounded in a air strike.
• Baghdadi, who carries a $25 mn US bounty is one of the world’s most wanted terrorists.

1. Mukesh Ambani’s wealth can fund India’s govt for 20 days

• The US govt with the world’s highest spending can function for 5 days with the wealth of world’s richest person JeffBezos.
• The Republic of Cyprus can function for 141 days using its richest persons’ fortune.

2. Cryptocurrency regulation is inevitable : IMF Chief

• IMF MD Christine Lagarde has states that it is a domain where we need international regulation and proper supervision.
• She added that IMF is actively trying to prevent digital currencies from being use dto launder money or finance terrorism.

3. SEBI staff oppose transfer of surplus funds to govt

• Employees claimed that the move will affect the regulator’s autonomy.
• The govt is expecting up to Rs.4000 cr from SEBI to help increase govt’s non-tax revenue.

1. Olympic official suggests Korean team for Nobel Peace Prize

• A senior member of the committee called for N Korea and S Korea’s joint women’s ice hockey team to be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
• It is the first ever unified Korean team to compete at the Olympics.

2. India could lose 2021 CT hosting rights over tax exemption

• India could lose the hosting rights of 2021 Champions Trophy if the govt doesn’t provide full tax exemption to the ICC.
• Notably, ICC lost a revenue of Rs.125 cr from the 2016 World T20 staged in India.
