On July 11, Justice Aalia Neelum was sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court (LHC) in Pakistan, marking her as the first woman to hold this prestigious position. Haryana Cabinet Approves IT Saksham Yuva Scheme to Provide 5,000 Jobs in First Phase

The Haryana Cabinet has sanctioned the IT Saksham Yuva Scheme, 2024, with the goal of providing jobs to 5,000 youths in its first phase. This initiative is part of the broader ‘Mission 60,000’ from the 2024-25 budget, aimed at employing 60,000 young people from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Graduates or postgraduates with IT degrees will undergo short-term courses of at least three months. After training, they will be placed in various governmental and private sectors. Trainees will receive ₹20,000 monthly for the first six months, increasing to ₹25,000 thereafter. Unemployed graduates will get an allowance of ₹10,000 per month.

The Jharkhand government is planning to open eastern India’s first university for physically challenged students in Ranchi. Higher and Technical Education Minister Champai Soren has directed officials to prepare a proposal for this specialized university to cater to the educational needs of disabled students.

India’s retail inflation in June 2024 hit a four-month high of 5.08%, driven by soaring food prices, especially vegetables, due to prolonged heatwave conditions. This marks the 57th consecutive month of inflation above the RBI’s 4% target, diminishing chances for immediate interest rate cuts.

India’s Industrial Production Growth Hits 5.9% in May 2024

India’s industrial production grew by 5.9% year-over-year in May 2024, achieving the highest growth in seven months. This surge exceeded expectations, with significant contributions from electricity generation and consumer durables.

Consumer Price Index (CPI) Numbers for June 2024

In June 2024, the All India Consumer Price Index (CPI) recorded a year-over-year inflation rate of 5.08%. Rural inflation was at 5.66%, while urban inflation stood at 4.39%. Key sub-groups like ‘Eggs’, ‘Spices’, ‘Meat & fish’, and ‘Pulses & products’ saw a decrease in inflation compared to May 2024. The Consumer Food Price Index (CFPI) also rose, with a notable increase in rural CFPI by 9.15%.
