1.Entry and exit of horses to be banned in Delhi.

• Due to the outbreak of Glanders disease, the Delhi govt has decided to ban the entry and exit of horses, mules and donkeys.
• Glanders, a fatal disease that can be contracted by human beings, has been reportedly detected in around 30 horses in the city over two months.

2.India should introduce cervical cancer vaccine.

• India should introduce the HPV vaccine as cervical cancer kills 70,000 women year in the country, said WHO official Dr Soumya Swaminathan.
• This comes after the Home Ministry decided not to introduce the vaccine following objections raised by RSS-affiliated Swadeshi Jagran March.

3.PM Modi received Israeli PM at the airport.

• PM Narendra Modi broke protocol by receiving Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu, who is on six-day visit to India.
• Netanyahu is the 1st Israeli PM to visit in 15 years.

4.Haryana records its highest sex ratio at birth in 2017.

• Haryana recorded its highest sex ratio at birth with 914 girls per 1,000 boys in 2017, according to government officials.
• Haryana had recorded its worst sex ratio at birth in the 2011 Census with 834 girls per 1,000 boys.

International News

1.UN Chief calls for ‘Balance of Power’ in UNSC.

• In order to make United Nations Security Council(UNSC) more democratic, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has called for ‘Balance of Power’.
• Several nations have demanded reforms in the UNSC such as extending veto power to more nations and increasing permanent members to make the body more representative.

2.India’s monopoly on Internet in Nepal ended by China.

• Nepal opened a new optical fibre link to China ending its dependence on India for Internet services.
• Earlier, Internet services to Nepal were provided by Bharti Airtel and Tata Communications. Internet was first introduced in Nepal in 1993.

3.Phones across Hawaii received a false alert of incoming ballistic missile.

• An emergency alert warning people of an incoming ballistic missile was mistakenly dispatched to mobile phones across US” Hawaii.
• Officials sent a corrected message around 40 minutes later adding that the alarm was caused due to human errors.

4.Trump called African nations ‘shitholes’, confirmed by US Senator.

• Democratic US Senator Dick Durbin, a key negotiator in immigrant talks, said that he personally heard Trump say the words which were hate filled, vile and racist.
• US President has denied making any derogatory comments about the nations.

Business News
1.InnoVen Capital likely to invest 100 million dollars in Indian startups in 2018.

• The venture debt firm’s India CEO Ashish Sharma said that InnoVen Capital may invest upto $90-100 million in Indian startups this year.
• InnoVen Capital loaned 75 million dollars to startups in 2017.

2.Ethereum hits new high of 1,430 dollars.

• World’s second largest cryptocurrency Ethereum reached its all-time high of 1,430 dollars (Rs 91,000).
• 18% of the total crypto market is comprised of Ethereum and now it has market capitalization of 138 billion dollars.

3.Ola acquired 100% stake in Foodpanda India.

• Ola acquired Foodpanda India from Delivery Hero Group for 31.7 million dollars.
• This acquisition can be seen as the return of Ola in Indian online food delivery space after Ola Café shut down in 2016.

Sports News
1.Yuki Bhambri qualifies for Australian Open 2018.

• By defeating Canada’s Peter Polansky in the final qualification round, Indian tennis player Yuki Bhambri qualified for the Australian Open.
• Bhambri will appear for the third time in the Australian Open men’s singles main draw. He won Australian Open boys singles title in 2009.

2.US’ first openly gay man to participate in Winter Olympics.

• Adam Rippon, American figure skater, is set to become the first openly gay man to compete for the USA in the Winter Olympics.
• Rippon will join openly gay Canadian skater Eric Radford at the Winter games.

3.India thrashed Australia by 100 runs to begin their U19 World Cup.

• This was India’s seventh consecutive win against Australia in Youth ODIs.
• India also had become the first team to score over 300 runs in an Under 19 Wprld Match against Australia.
