1. 6th meeting of NDMA

• Narendra Modi chaired the sixth meeting of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) at New Delhi.
• National Disaster Management Authority, abbreviated as NDMA is an agency of the Ministry of Home Affairs whose primary purpose is to coordinate response to natural or man-made disasters and for capacity-building in disaster resiliency and crisis response.

• ‘Maharana Pratap: The Invincible Warrior’ authored by historian Rima Hooja.
• Maharana Pratap, was the Rajput king of Mewar, a region in north-western India in the present day state of Rajasthan.

• On World Food Day, Govt. has launched ‘Swastha Bharat Yatra’ Campaign to create awareness about Safe Food.
• World Food Day is celebrated every year around the world on 16 October in honour of the date of the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in 1945.

International News

1. The Global Competitiveness Report

• World Economic Forum has released The Global Competitiveness Report 2018.
• India is ranked 58th (62.0 Score) out of 140 Countries with a jump of 5 places from 2017.
• US topped the Index followed by Singapore and Germany at second and third respectively.

2. ‘Brief Answers to the Big Questions’ A Book

• Stephen Hawking’s final Literature ‘Brief Answers to the Big Questions’ has been launched by his children.
• Stephen William Hawking was an English theoretical physicist, cosmologist, and author, who was director of research at the Centre for Theoretical Cosmology at the University of Cambridge at the time of his death.

3. Sale of cannabis for recreational use

• Canada has become second country to legalise possession and use of recreational cannabis.
• Uruguay is the first country to do so.

4. 2018 Bird of the Year

• Kererū has been named the 2018 Bird of the Year in New Zealand.
• Kererū is a native green and bronze wood pigeon and is known to fall from trees after consuming rotten berries.

1. India’s first cryptocurrency ATM

• India’s first cryptocurrency ATM is installed in Bengaluru.
• It is installed at Kemp Fort Mall by virtual currency exchange Unocoin.
• Users can deposit money to buy currencies(Bitcoin and Ethereum) using OTP Authentication.

2. ‘Adani Group’ and French energy ‘Total’

• Both have signed an agreement to develop Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminals and fuel retail stations across the country.
• Adani Group is an Indian multinational conglomerate headquartered in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. It was founded by Gautam Adani in 1988 as a commodity trading business with the flagship company Adani Enterprises Limited. Gautam Adani is the chairman.

3. Nokia’s New brand ambassador

• Nokia has appointed Alia Bhatt as brand ambassador in India.
• Nokia Corporation is a Finnish multinational telecommunications, information technology, and consumer electronics company, founded in 1865. Nokia’s headquarters are in Espoo, in the greater Helsinki metropolitan area.

4. Nokia with BSNL

• BSNL has signed a MOU with Nokia Solutions and Networks India Pvt Ltd to implement industrial automation solutions (Industry 4.0).
• Industry 4.0 surfaces on low-latency, high-reliability networks with capabilities in robotics and AI and IoT to drive new levels of automation.

1. International Olympic committee award

• Suheil F. Tandon has won the IOC’s Sport and Active Society Commission’s Grant Award for Sports Development.

2. First-ever Virat Kohli-designed sneaker

• It is a part of the ‘Basket Classic one8’ collection with PUMA.
• Puma, is a German multinational company that designs and manufactures athletic and casual footwear, apparel and accessories, which is headquartered in Herzogenaurach, Bavaria, Germany. PUMA is the third largest sportswear manufacturer in the world. The company was founded in 1948 by Rudolf Dassler.

3. India’s 1st Youth Olympic archery medal

• Akash Malik won India’s maiden silver medal in archery at the Youth Olympics.
• Buenos Aires 2018, is an international sports, cultural, and educational event being hosted in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It is the first Summer Youth Olympic Games to be held outside of Asia and the first Youth Games for either summer or winter to be held outside Eurasia. It is the second Olympic Games held in South America (after the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil).
