1. Student Police Cadet (SPC) programme

• Union Home Minister launches the Student Police Cadet (SPC) programme for nationwide implementation at a ceremony in Guru gram.
• Rajnath Singh says SPC will create a silent revolution by imparting moral values to budding minds.

2. Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (Second Amendment) Bill, 2017

• Lok Sabha passed The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (Second Amendment) Bill, 2017 to abolish the ‘no detention policy’ in schools.
• The Act was having provision of no detention policy i.e. no child can be held back in any class until completion of elementary school (classes 1-8).

3. Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Rwanda, Uganda and South Africa

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Rwanda, Uganda and then South Africa where he will attend the 10th edition of the BRICS Summit in Johannesburg.
• In BRICS Summit, global issues, including those related to international peace and security will be discussed.

4. Two Plus Two Dialogue between India and US

• The inaugural ‘two-plus-two dialogue’ between India and the United States will be held in New Delhi in September 2018.
• Donald Trump is the 45th President of the USA. Washington DC is the capital city of the USA.

International News

1. Myanmar Joins International Solar Alliance

• Myanmar joined the International Solar Alliance (ISA) and became the 68th signatory member.
• The International Solar Alliance was launched jointly by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Francois Hollande on the first day of the COP-21 summit at Paris in 2015.

2. Global slavery Index 2018

• The report of the Global slavery Index 2018 has been published by the Australia-based human rights group Walk Free Foundation.
• North Korea is at the top of the list with 104.6 slave per 1,000 and Japan registering the lowest prevalence rate of 0.3 per 1,000.Among 167 countries, India ranked 53.

3. India to expand polar research to Arctic

• The government is focusing priorities to the Arctic because of opportunities and challenges posed by climate change.
• The government has renamed the National Centre for Antarctic and Ocean Research (NCAOR) as the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research. Charged with conducting expeditions to India’s base stations to the continent.

Business News

1. Fugitive Economic Offenders Bill, 2018

• Lok Sabha passed the Fugitive Economic Offenders Bill, 2018. It will now replace the Ordinance by the same name promulgated by the President in April 2018.
• The Bill empowers special courts to direct the Central government to confiscate all the assets belonging to a fugitive economic offender, including those assets that are proceeds of the crime and that do not belong to the offender.

2. MOU between Infosys Foundation and Bangalore Metro

• Infosys Foundation signed an MOU with the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) for the construction of a station in Electronics City.
• Infosys Foundation is the philanthropic arm of IT major Infosys headquartered in Bangalore.

3. Solar parks in India

• Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan have topped the list of states with maximum solar power generation capacity approved under solar parks in India.
• Gujarat’s total capacity of 6,200 Mw is distributed across 3 solar parks; Rajasthan’s 4,331 Mw capacity comes from 6 parks; while 4 solar parks account for Andhra’s 4,160 Mw total approved capacity.

4. MOU to give Scientific Validation to Ayurveda

• An agreement was signed between IIT Delhi and the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) for this.
• A projects will be launched that would aim to give “scientific validation” to the ancient medical science and integrate it with technology.

Sports News

1. Indian U-19 cricket team beat Sri Lanka in the first Youth Test

• The Indian U-19 cricket team beat Sri Lanka by an innings and 21 runs in the first Youth Test.
• The second test match between the two teams will be played from July 24 in Hambantota, Sri Lanka.

2. Fakhar Zaman became first Pakistani to score double century in ODIs

• Opener Fakhar Zaman has become the first Pakistani and over all sixth batsman to score a double ton in ODI.
• List of Double Centurions in ODIs: Rohit Sharma – 264, 209, 208 runs; Martin Guptill – 237; Virender Sehwag – 219; Chris Gayle – 219; Sachin Tendulkar – 200; Fakhar Zaman – 210.

3. Women’s Hockey World Cup 2018

• India’s first match will be against hosts England.
• Rani Rampal will lead the campaign.
