National News

1.3rd edition on National Conclave on mines and minerals organised in New Delhi.

• The Ministry of Mines has organised the 3rd National Conclave on Mines and Minerals in New Delhi. The event was inaugurated by the Minister of Mines, Narendra Singh Tomar.
• A portal on Pradhan Mantri Khanij Kshetra Kalyan Yojna(PMKKKY) scheme was also launched on the occasion.

2.A book on Paramveer Chakra awardees released by Indian Army.

• ‘Paramveer Parwane’- a book on Paramveer awardees has been released by General Bipin Rawat.
• The book is written by Dr. Prabhakiran Jain and is published by Medha Books. Somnath Sharma was the first recipient of Paramveer Chakra.

3.Govt to get 100 bulletproof vehicles for CRPF personnel.

• The Center has approved the proposal to procure 100 medium bulletproof vehicles(MBPVs) for safe movement of CRPF personnel in Jammu and Kashmir and Naxal infested areas.
• Apart from the 100 vehicles for CRPF, 41 have been approved for ITBP, Sashastra Seema Bal and CISF.

4.Lakshadweep has least number of beggars.

• Thaawarchand Gehlot, Union Minister for Social Justice, has said that there are at least 4,13,670 beggars and vagrants in India, with Lakshadweep having just two.
• West Bengal, with 81,000, has the maximum number of beggars, while Uttar Pradesh stood at second position with 65,835 beggars.

International News

1.World’s most liveable city report released.

• Vienna, Austria’s capital city, has been rated the world’s most liveable city for the ninth consecutive year by Mercer in its actual Quality of Living survey. Baghdad, Iraq’s capital city, has been rated the least liveable city for the 10th consecutive year.
• Hyderabad and Pune have been rated India’s most liveable cities as they have tied for the 142nd place in Mercer’s global Quality of Living survey.

2.1st G20 ministerial meeting held in Argentina.

• With the presence of 57 delegations, the first G20 meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors began in Buenos Aires.
• This is the first of such five meeting to be held before Argentina hosts the G20 Summit on November 30 to December 1, 2018.

3.Will meet Putin to discuss ‘out of control’ arms race: Trump.

• US President Donald Trump said that he will soon meet his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to discuss the arms race which is getting ‘out of control’.
• The US President also called Putin to congratulate him on his re-election.

4.Myanmar’s President Htin Kyaw resigns.

• Htin Kyaw, who became Myanmar’s first democratically elected President in 2016, has resigned from the position with immediate effect to take rest from his current duties and responsibilities, his office announced.
• Kyaw is believed to have been holding the post only for ceremonial purposes, with State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi acting as the country’s de facto leader.

Business News
1.USA bans use of Petro.

• The Donald Trump administration banned all use by Americans of Venezuelan crypto-currency(Petro), saying that its introduction is intended to skirt US sanctions.
• In February 2018, cash-strapped Venezuela became the first country to launch its own version of bitcoin, the petro.

2.Double taxation avoidance treaty signed between Hong Kong and India.

• To improve transparency in tax matters and help curb tax evasions and avoidance, India and Hong Kong signed a double taxation avoidance agreement(DTAA).
• The agreement between India and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region(HKSAR) of the People’s Republic of China was signed by Indian ambassador to China Gautam Bambawale and Hong Kong Finance Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po in Hong Kong.

3.7.5% growth cannot create enough jobs for India: Rajan.

• Raghuram Rajan, former RBI Governor, has said that 7.5% GDP growth won’t be enough to create good jobs for 1.2 crore people joining India’s workforce every year.
• On how quickly can India achieve 10% growth, Rajan said it could happen after the 2019 Lok Sabha elections because reforms are unlikely till then.

4.Amazon overtakes Alphabet to be world’s 2nd most valuable firm.

• With a market capitalization of $768 billion, Jeff Bezos-led Amazon overtook Alphabet for the first time to become the world’s second most valuable company.
• Apple remains most valuable firm at $889 billion.

Sports News
1.K Srikanth, Somdev Devvarman receive Padma Shri awards.

• Ace shuttler Kidambi Srikanth and former tennis player Somdev Devvarman received the country’s fourth-highest civilian award, Padma Shri, from President Ram Nath Kovind.
• Shrikanth is the first Indian to win the golden trio of Grand Prix Gold, Super Series and Super Series Premier titles.

2.I should have finished the match: Vijay Shankar on final.

• Indian all-rounder Vijay Shankar, who played four consecutive dot deliveries in the 18th over of the tri-series final, has said that he should have finished the match.
• He further said, “It was an off-day. I am finding it difficult to forget it”.
