1.First design University of India opens in Haryana.

• ’World University of Design’ opened its campus at Sonipat, Haryana. WUD is India’s first university dedicated to education in the creative domain.
• Om Prakash Bansal Educational and Social Welfare Trust of Mandi Gobindgarh, Punjab is promoting this university.

2.The Sahitya Akademi announced its Sahitya Akademi Awards 2017.

• Authors Mamang Dai and Ramesh Kuntal Megh have won this year’s awards for “The Black Hill”, a novel, and “Vishwa Mithak Sarit Sagar”, a literary criticism respectively.
• Sahitya Academy was established in 1954 and has K. Sreenivasarao as its secretary.

3.Border talks to be held with China.

• National Security Adviser Ajit Doval will hold formal negotiations on the boundary issue with his Chinese counterpart Yang Jiechi.
• This comes after 73-day-long military stand-off between India and China at Doklam.

4.Exercise Naseem-Al-Bahr conducted with Oman Navy.

• Trikand and Teg, Indian Naval Ships, are deployed to Oman for Exercise Naseem-Al-Bahr or ‘Sea Breeze’. This is the 11th edition and has been conducted every two years since 1993.
• Indo-Oman Treaty of Friendship, Navigation and Commerce, 1953 was the first treaty signed between India and an Arab country.

International News

1.Japan boosts defense budget over threat of North Korea.

• Over the threats posed by N Korea’s nuclear programme, Japan has boosted its defense budget to a record level of nearly Rs.3 lakh crores.
• It is Japan’s largest ever and sixth straight annual rise in defense spending under PM Shinzo Abe.

2.128 countries voted against US’ Jerusalem recognition at UN.

• India was among 128 countries who voted against the US’ recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel at the 193-member UN General Assembly.
• India has been in support of Independent Palestine.

3.UK will switch from burgundy to blue passports.

• The UK will switch from Burgundy to blue coloured passports after the country leaves the European Union.
• The blue cover, which was first used in 1921, will be issued from Oct 2019. UK started burgundy coloured passports in 1988.

4.A Volcano gets a same legal rights as a person.

• New Zealand’s government has signed an agreement with local tribes to give Mount Taranaki the same legal rights as a person.
• The stratovolcano is the third geographic feature in New Zealand which has been granted a legal personality.

Business News
1.TCS gets biggest deal for Indian firm worth $2.25 bn.

• TCS has secured $2.25 billion outsourcing contract from television rating measurement firm Nielsen.
• The partnership is a renewal of TCS’ existing collaboration with Nielsen.

2.World largest crypto-currency Bitcoin falls by $7,200.

• Bitcoin’s price fell by over $7,200 to below $12,600, after reaching all-time high of over $19,780 earlier this month.
• Bitcoin currently has a market capitalization of over $210 billion and accounts for about 44% of the crypto-currency market.

3.Indian mobile operating system startup Indus OS raises $4 mn.

• Mumbai-based mobile operating system startup Indus OS has raised $4 mn in pre-series B funding round from existing investors Omidyar Network, Ventureast, and JSW ventures.
• Indus OS was founded in 2014 and is currently available in English and 12 regional languages.

4.EtherDelta replaced with fake site by hackers.

• Cryptocurrency exchange EtherDelta suffered a security breach as hackers managed to take control over its DNS server and redirected the etherdelta.com domain to a malicious server hosting a copy of their website.
• Reportedly, the hackers managed to steal nearly $240,000 worth Ethereum.

Sports News
1.India’s top earning sportsperson of 2017 is Kohli.

• Indian captain Virat Kohli has featured as the highest-paid sportsperson in the 2017 Forbes India Celebrity list with Rs.100.72 crores earning.
• Kohli is on 3rd position and is the youngest among top 10 celebrities to feature in this list. PV Sindhu is placed 13th and is highest paid sportswoman in the list.

2.Pak players left abandoned in Uganda.

• Top Pakistani players who went to Uganda to participate in a T20 league, were left abandoned without payments.
• The Ugandan board after calling off the T20 league also refused to pay 50% contractual fees to the players.

3.Boxer posts Xmas tree pics, faces death threats.

• Amir Khan, a British pugilist is facing death threats from fringe radical elements, just because the former posted a Christmas tree pic on Instagram.
• The boxer didn’t expect such hate to take over.
