National News
1. Maharashtra Govt Announces Farm Loan Waiver

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced the largest farm loan waiver of Rs 34,000 crore for farmers in the state.
The programme is named after Maratha warrior Shivaji Maharaj, will benefit 89 lakh farmers and make 40 lakh agriculturists debt-free.
The new scheme will see debt of up to Rs 1.5 lakh per farmer being written off.
So far states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab have announced loan waiver.

2. Aadhaar not valid for travel to Nepal and Bhutan

Union home ministry has announced that Aadhaar is not a valid identification document for Indians travelling to Nepal and Bhutan.
However Indians can travel to Nepal and Bhutan if they have a valid passport or voter’s ID card issued by the Election Commission of India.
Persons over 65 and below 15 years can show documents with photographs to confirm their age and identity. The documents can PAN card, driving licence, CGHS card but not Aadhaar.
The Aadhaar card, which has a 12-digit unique identification number and personal details like name and address, acts as a proof of identification and residence.

3. 24/7 helpline for women launched.

First time in the history of Manipur a helpline just for women has been launched.
Manipur government has launched a toll free 24/7 helpline number 181 for women in the state.
The helpline will provide a 24-hour telecom service to women affected by violence, seeking support and information.
This scheme is available and designed for all 16 districts of the state and for this purpose District level nodal officers have been appointed.
The helpline has been launched with an aim to fight and reduce crime against women in the state.

4. ISRO-made chips to alert people at unmanned rail crossings.

Indian Space and Research Organisation has developed a satellite-based chip systems to alert road users at unmanned level crossings about approaching trains and also help in tracking train movement on a real-time basis.
Road users will be warned by hooters once a train approaches an unmanned level crossing as railways are installing ISRO-developed integrated circuit chips on locomotives of trains.
The hooter will be louder as the level crossing nears, and finally it will be silent after the train passes by.
On a pilot basis, Mumbai and Guwahati Rajdhani trains will be equipped with this system.
The satellite based system will also be used for tracking trains for disseminating information about their movement on real time basis.

International News
1. China urges Afghans, Pakistan to form crisis-management mechanism.

China has urged Afghanistan and Pakistan to improve relations and establish a crisis prevention and management mechanism.
China’s foreign minister said a three-way conference mechanism involving the two countries and China could promote dialogue and cooperation.
China is also investing heavily in both Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The ties between Kabul and Islamabad have been tense in recent years by Afghan accusations that Pakistan is supporting Taliban insurgents.

2. China develops world’s most powerful submarine detector.

A major breakthrough in magnetic detection technology which could find hidden metallic objects, including minerals and submarines has been achieved by china.
The device works from air and can be used to pinpoint the location of minerals buried deep beneath the earth.
The device could also be used on civilian and military aircraft.
The technology could be used to detect minerals on land, and in the ocean to nail down submarines.

3. Pakistan issues its first transgender passport.

Pakistan has issued its first third-gender passport to a transgender activist.
Farzana Riaz, a transgender activist said the new passport would help her campaign globally on behalf of her community.
Farzana’s new passport mentions her gender as X and not as a male or female.
In 2009, Pakistan became one of the first countries in the world to legally recognise a third sex, allowing transgenders to obtain identity cards.
Meanwhile homosexuality, prohibited by Islam, is punishable by 10 years imprisonment or even 100 lashes in Pakistan.

1. Net worth of Oracle founder skyrockets in 2 days.

American computer technology major Oracle’s 72-year-old Co-founder, Larry Ellison’s net worth has jumped by $5 billion in two days to hit $61.8 billion.
The jump in his net worth came from his around 25% stake in Oracle, after his company’s shares soared following fourth-quarter earnings that exceeded analysts’ expectations.
Ellison is currently the seventh richest person in the world.

2. SBI chief’s salary peanuts compared to counterparts in Private banks.

SBI chairman Arundhati Bhattacharya took home Rs 28.96 lakh last fiscal, which is pittance when compared to remuneration her counterparts in private banks receive.
In comparision, ICICI Bank MD and CEO Chanda Kochhar received a basic salary of Rs 2.66 crore last fiscal besides Rs 2.2 crore performance bonus. In addition, she received allowances and perquisites of over Rs 2.43 crore.
Yes Bank MD and CEO Rana Kapoor, who also happens to be promoter of the bank, took home Rs 6.8 crore as salary in 2016-17.

Sports News
1. Indian boxers claim a gold and a silver medal.

Indian Boxer Ankush Dahiya (60kg) clinched a gold while L Devendro Singh (52kg) settled for a silver medal on the final day of the Ulaanbaatar Cup boxing tournament in Mongolia.
The 19-year-old Ankush defeated Korean Man Choe Chol in a split verdict while Devendro lost to Indonesia’s Aldoms Suguro in a split decision.
This is Ankush’s maiden international medal at the senior level.
India thus signed off with a gold, a silver and three bronze medals from the tournament.

2. Srikanth wins Australia Open Super Series men’s singles title.

India’s shuttler Kidambi Srikanth defeated Rio champion Chen Long to win the Australia Open Series held in Sydney.
Srikanth won in straight games 22-20, 21-16 to win his career’s fourth Super Series title.
This is his 2nd consecutive Super Series title after he won the Indonesia Open Super Series title.
He became the first player after Malaysian great Lee Chong Wei to reach a hat-trick of Super series finals.
Badminton Association of India has announced cash of Rs.5 lakh for Srikanth.
