1. ‘Spoken English’ course for govt school kids

  • The Delhi govt is set to launch the course to improve the quality of govt schools.
  • Class 10 students who cleared ore-board exams with English as a subject are eligible for the course.

2. ‘One Year One Election’

  • The EC has suggested that all elections scheduled for one year should be held together.
  • The Law Commission had sought EC’s opinion on holding multiple elections simultaneously.

3. Bangladesh Bhavan inaugurated in WB

  • Prime Ministers of India and Bangladesh Modi and Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the Bangladesh Bhavan.
  • The museum in the Bhavan showcases Rabindranath Tagore’s association with Bangladesh.

4. IIT Kanpur signs deal to make flying cars in India

  • The institute has signed MoU with VTOL Aviation India to develop vertical takeoff and landing craft prototypes.
  • The electric craft will be able to take off or land on any terrain.

International News

1. N Korea destroys its nuclear test site

  • North Korea destroyed 3 operational tunnels and accompanying structures.
  • The country had earlier announced that it had completed its goal of developing nuclear weapons and does not need a test site anymore.

2. Prince William to visit Israel

  • Prince Williams will be the 1st British royal to visit Israel and Palestinian Territories.
  • The UK had rejected US’ decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

3. Thailand arrests monks

  • Thai police arrested several prominent monks in a bid to ‘clean up’ Buddhism.
  • The religion is followed by 90% of Thailand’s population.

4. Bomb explosion at Indian eatery in Canada

  • 15 people were injured in the Canadian city of Mississauga.
  • 2 men detonated an explosive device and fled the scene after the blast.

1. Google to mentor Asian startups

  • The startups must have raised at least $50,000.
  • The selected startups will receive mentorship from Google to deliver the pitch to panel of investors.

2. Hugging Face raises $4 mn

  • The chatbot app can detect emotions based on what users share.

3. CCI orders probe against Grasim

  • The probe is ordered for alleged abuse of dominant position with regard to the sale of Viscose Staple Fibre.
  • The allegations are related to monitoring the customers by collecting their consumption data.

1. Smith to return to cricket in Canadian tournament

  • Steve Smith who was offered a 12-month ban will return in the Global T20 Canadian League.
  • He has been named a marquee player in the league.

2. Silver at Archery World Cup

  • The compound team of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Muskan Kirar and Divya Dayal bagged silver.
  • Also, Vennam won bronze in the mixed team event with Abhishek Verma in the Shanghai WC.
