  • Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chndrababu Naidu declared the year 2017 as e-pragati year.
  • The flagship program will help the government to make real time governance.

2. Sports ministry recommends PV Sindhu for Padma Bhushan.

  • Sports Ministry of India has recommended Olympic silver medalist PV Sindhu for Padma Bhushan award.
  • In 2015, Sindhu was awarded India’s fourth highest civilian honour Padma Shri.

3. BHU tense after police crackdown Yogi seeks report.

  • Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath has sought a report from the divisional commissioner as tension runs high at the Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi after a police crackdown on students demonstrating against an alleged molestation.
  • Various political parties, including the Samajwadi Party and the Congress, have criticised the government and condemned the police action.

International News

1. DRUZBA 2017, Pak-Russia joint military drill started.

  • The joint exercise DRUZBA 2017 between special forces of Pakistan and Russia armies started in Minralney Vody, Russia.
  • Two week long joint military exercise will focus on counter terrorism operations to enhance military ties between Moscow and Islamabad.

2. Angela Merkel wins 4th term as chancellor of Germany.

  • Angela Merkel won 4th term as the chancellor in Germany elections.
  • Merkel’s Christina Democrat led block took 32.5% to defeat Martin Schulz’s Social Democrats, who took 20% votes.

3. India third major country in Nuclear power installations.

  • India is third in the world in the number of Nuclear reactors being installed, with currently six reactors, while china is leading at 20.
  • Interestingly nuclear reactor units under construction is however declining globally for the fourth successive year in a row, from 68 reactors in 2013 to 53 by mid-2017.

1. Rajeev Mehrishi took oath as a new CAG.

  • Former Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi took over as the comptroller and auditor(CAG) of India.
  • He succeeded Shashi Kant Sharm. Mehrishi will have tenure of three years.

2. Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries becomes world’s third largest energy firm.

  • Reliance Industries ltd has jumped five places to rank as the world’s third-biggest energy company behind Russian gas firm Gazrpom and German utility E.ON
  • State-owned Indian Oil Corp (IOC) broke into the top 10 club, climbing to 7th position in the 2017 ranking

3. C N R Rao chosen for International Honour for Materials Research.

  • Eminent scientist, Professor C N R Rao has become the first Asian to be chosen for the prestigious Von Hippel Award for the immense contribution in materials research.
  • The award is US based materials research society’s highest honour.

Sports News
1. India defeat Australia in 3rd successive ODI.

  • India defeated Australia by 5 wickets in the third ODI in Indore, taking 3-0 lead in the five match series.
  • With the win, India also equaled their longest winning streak of nine series in ODI history.

2. India surge to top of ODI and Test rankings.

  • Indian cricket team surged to the top of the ICC ODI ranking after defeating Australia in the 3rd ODI in Indore.
  • Notably, India has topped test ranking also.
