Launch of National STOP Diarrhoea Campaign 2024

  • On June 24, the National STOP Diarrhoea Campaign for the year 2024 was inaugurated by the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda.
  • He was accompanied by the Union Ministers of State for Health and Family Welfare, Smt. Anupriya Patel and Shri Jadhav Patraprao Ganpatrao.
  • During the launch, they unveiled various Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials such as a campaign logo, posters, and audio-visuals related to radio. Additionally, they distributed oral rehydration salts (ORS) and zinc tablets to children.

Girija Subramanian Named CMD of New India Assurance

  • The government has named Girija Subramanian as the new chairman and managing director of New India Assurance, the foremost general insurance company in India.
  • Her term commenced on June 19, 2024, and will extend until her retirement or until further notice.

Book on Maritime History Released by Maharashtra Governor

  • On June 22, 2024, Shri Ramesh Bais, the Governor of Maharashtra, unveiled a book titled ‘Gateways to the Sea: Historic Ports and Docks of Mumbai Region’ at Raj Bhavan, Mumbai.
  • The book highlights the long-standing maritime history of the Mumbai area, covering both its ancient and contemporary aspects.

Madhya Pradesh Government Sanctions PM College of Excellence in Every District

  • The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mohan Yadav, announced the establishment of a PM College of Excellence in each of the state’s 55 districts, starting from July 1.
  • These colleges will focus on promoting ‘Bharatiya Gyan Parampara’ and are set to include all necessary facilities.

  • HDFC ERGO General Insurance has announced the appointment of Anuj Tyagi as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, effective from July 1, 2024.
  • Tyagi, who has been part of the company since 2008 and is currently the Deputy MD, will take over from Ritesh Kumar, the outgoing MD & CEO.

SBI Awards Dividend of Rs 6,959 Crore to the Government

  • The State Bank of India has contributed a dividend of Rs 6,959 crore to the government for the fiscal year 2023-24, marking an increase from the prior year’s dividend of Rs 11.30 per share to Rs 13.70 per share.
  • The cheque was presented to the Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, by SBI Chairman Dinesh Kumar Khara, in the presence of Financial Services Secretary Vivek Joshi.
  • The bank reported a record consolidated net profit of Rs 67,085 crore, up from Rs 55,648 crore the previous year.

S&P Maintains India’s GDP Growth Forecast at 6.8% for FY25

  • S&P Global Ratings has kept its GDP growth projection for India for FY25 at 6.8%, attributing high interest rates and reduced fiscal stimulus as the reasons for dampening demand in non-agricultural sectors.
  • It expects growth rates of 6.9% and 7% for FY26 and FY27, respectively.
