1. Narendra Modi means business in USA

PM Narendra Modi is on a 2 day visit to USA, where he will meet President Donald Trump for the first time. Prior to that, during a meeting in Washington DC, Modi asked the chief executive officers of top United States companies to invest in India.
Modi tweeted “Interacted with top CEOs,” after a 90-minute-long meeting with the heads of 20 US-based firms. “We held extensive discussions on opportunities in India.”
Apple chief Tim Cook, Google CEO Sunder Pichai, Cisco head John Chambers and Amazon’s Jeff Bezos were among the entrepreneurs at the meeting.
Amazon’s founder and Chief Executive Officer Jeff Bezos on Monday said he was “excited” to continue investing in India, after his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Washington DC.

2. Panel headed by space scientist to frame New Education Policy

The Ministry of Human Resource Development has appointed a nine-member panel headed by space scientist Krishnaswamy Kasturirangan to work on a New Education Policy.
The panel also includes former IAS officer KJ Alphonse Kanamthanam, who helped the districts of Kottayam and Ernakulam in Kerala achieve 100% literacy.
An HRD Ministry official said the appointments had been made keeping in mind the various areas of education and the country’s diversity.

3. Best Parliamentarian Award

RSP leader and Lok Sabha member N K Premachandran has been selected for the Best Parliamentarian Award for 2016
The award will be conferred on him by Vice President Hamid Ansari and Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan during the upcoming session of Parliament.
N K Premachandran, the 57-year-old member of Lok Sabha from Kollam in Kerala is a central secretariat member of the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP).

4. Jagannath Rath Yatra Begins amidst tight security

Devotees thronged the town of Puri for the world-famous annual Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath and his siblings Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra that began on Sunday.
The festival commemorates Jagannath’s annual visit toGundicha Temple via Mausi Maa Temple (aunt’s home) near Balagandi Chaka, As part of Ratha Yatra, the deities are taken out in a procession on three giant wooden chariots which are pulled by devotees to Gundicha Temple and remain there for nine days. They are also accompanied by Sudarshana chakra.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, BJP national chief Amit Shah and several central and state ministers greeted devotees.

International News
1. Tourist boat tragedy in Columbia

Colombian authorities said nine people died and 28 others have been reported missing after a tourist boat ferrying around 170 passengers sank in the Penol-Guatape reservoir on Sunday.
The cause of the accident has not been declared yet. A rescue operation is underway at the popular tourist destination.

2. UK PM Theresa May Secures Majority

British Prime Minister Theresa May struck a deal today to prop up her minority government with the support of a small Northern Irish Protestant party.
After May lost her majority in parliament on June 8 with a failed gamble on a snap election, she tried to secure the backing of the small Democratic Unionist Party (DUP).
A deal would allow May to pass legislation with the backing of the DUP in the 650-seat parliament, and stay in power as she attempts to negotiate Britain’s exit from the European Union.

3. China Releases Nobel Laureate Liu Xiaobo

China’s jailed Nobel peace prize laureate Liu Xiaobo has been granted medical parole after being diagnosed with terminal liver cancer last month, his lawyer told AFP today.
Liu, who had about three years of his 11-year sentence to serve, was diagnosed on May 23 and was released days later, said lawyer Mo Shaoping.
The 61-year-old democracy campaigner was being treated at a hospital in the north-eastern city of Shenyang.

1. RBI says banks have no liability for loss of valuables kept in their lockers

The Reserve Bank of India has said in response to a Right To Information query that public sector banks have no liability for theft of valuables kept in their lockers, reported PTI.
Lawyer Kush Kalra, who sought the response under the RTI Act has now moved the Competition Commission of India, alleging “cartelisation” and “anti-competitive practices” by the banks.
According to the RTI reply accessed by the lawyer, the unanimous reason given by the RBI and 19 other PSU banks is that the relationship they have with customers with regard to lockers is that of “lessee [landlord] and lessor [tenant]

2. Big Boost to Skill India Mission: USD 250-million loan from World Bank

The World Bank has cleared a USD 250-million loan for the Skill India Mission
The main aim of the mission is, making Indian youth more employable through reskilling.
“The USD 250-million Skill India Mission Operation (SIMO), approved by the World Bank board of executive directors, will increase the market relevance of short-term skill development programmes (3-12 months or up to 600 hours) at the national and state level,” the Bank said in a release.

3. RBS to cut 443 Jobs, shift many to India

British lender Royal Bank of Scotland said today that it is cutting 443 UK jobs dealing with business loans, and plans to shift many of the roles to India.
“As we become a simpler, smaller bank, we are making some changes to the way we serve our customers. Unfortunately, these changes will result in the net reduction of 443 roles in the UK,” a spokesperson for the bank said.
RBS is The UK’s largest government-owned bank and is 73 per cent owned by the UK government after a 45- billion-pound bailout in 2008.

1. Indian Cricket team creates ODI World Record

India’s cricket team smashed 310/5 in the second ODI against West Indies in Port of Spain which helped them create a new world record of most 300-plus totals in ODIs, going past Australia.
During its 105 run win over West indies, India went past 300 for the 96th time in ODIs, thus creating a new world record. They went past Australia’s mark of 95.

2. ICC Women’s World Cup: India off to a good start

India got their ICC Women’s World Cup campaign off to a great start as they defeated hosts England by 35 runs in the opening game of the tournament in Derby.
In this match, Mithali Raj, one of India’sone of India’s premier batters in women’s cricket smashed yet another fifty and in the process, the third of the innings, as she set a world record. Her seventh consecutive fifty was the most by any woman player in ODIs.
