National News

1. HAL signs contract for 41 Dhruv Helicopters.

  • Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has signed a contract for 41 indigenously developed Dhruv Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH) for the Army and Navy.
  • Dhruv has been indigenously designed and developed by HAL and is developed by a Shakti engine jointly developed by HAL and Turbomeca of France and there are more than 200 helicopters in service with Indian armed forces.

2. No info on how much black money removed by Note Ban: RBI.

  • The RBI has told a parliamentary panel that it has no information on how much black money has been extinguished due to demonetization of Rs.500 and Rs.1000 notes.
  • RBI had earlier revealed that nearly 99% of the scrapped notes returned to the system.

3. Narendra Modi urgese for setting up BRICS credit rating agency.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday strongly pitched for the setting up of a BRICS credit rating agency to counter western rating institutions and cater to the financial needs of sovereign and corporate entities of developing nations.
  • In an address at the plenary session of the BRICS Summit, Mr. Modi said a separate rating agency would help the economies of the member countries and other developing nations.

International News

1. Australian Army probes possible war crimes in Afghanistan.

  • Australia’s Army has launched an investigation into possible war crimes committed by its force in Afghanistan between 2005 and 2016.
  • Interestingly, army has made a public call for anyone who has information to come forward. The probe comes after a leaked report claiming the unlawful killing of Afghan civilians by Australian Army.

2. Switzerland offers to mediate N Korea-US talks.

  • Switzerland’s President Doris Leuthard offered a role as a mediator to help resolve the crisis between US and N Korea.
  • The offers comes after N Korea conducted its Sixth Nuclear test, escalating tesnsions with the US.

3. BRICS slams Pakistan based terror groups for first time.

  • During the ongoing summit, the five BRICS nations have issued a declaration slamming Pakistan based terror groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed and the Lashkar-e-Taiba for the first time.
  • The member nations also called for quickening the finalization and adoption of the comprehensive convention on International Terrorism by the UN.

Business News

1. Star India bags IPL broadcast and Media rights for 5 years.

  • Media and entertainment company Star India acqired the IPL’s global broadcasting and digital rights for a consolidated sum of 16,347.5crore ($ 2.55 billion) for a period of five years.
  • The 21st Century Fox-owned Star India is now the proud owner of the BCCI’s global media rights, ICC and the IPL; the BCCI rights will come to end in March 2018.

2. Vasant Narsimha appointed CEO of Novartis.

  • Drugmaker Novartis has named Indian origin Vasant Narsimha as Chief Executive Officer(CEO).
  • Novartis AG is a Switzerland based Drug maker which researches, develops, manufactures, and markets healthcare products worldwide.

3. Daily petrol, diesel price revision to continue: Oil Min.

  • Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has said the daily revision in Petrol, Diesel prices will continue despite petrol price spiking vy rS.6.6 per liter in two months.
  • The daily revision results in any drop in international oil rates being passed on to customers immediately.

Sports News

1. Hamilton wins Italian GP.

  • Mercedes’ British formula One racer Lewis Hamilton won the Italian Grand Prix at Monza to take lead in in the F1 drivers’ championship title race for the first time this season.
  • Mercedes’ Valterri Bottas finished 2nd while Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel was placed third.

2. Roelant Oltmans sacked as India’s men hockey team coach.
