1. Chairman of National Medical Commission

• Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has appointed Suresh Chandra Sharma as the chairman of National Medical Commission (NMC).
• Suresh Chandra Sharma is the professor and head of ENT head-neck surgery department at AIIMS in New Delhi.

2. Inspector General, Border Security Force (BSF)

• IPS Abhinav Kumar has got extension as Inspector General, Border Security Force (BSF).
• BSF formed: 1 December 1965 || DG BSF: V K Johri.
• The Border Security Force is the border police organisation of India. It is one of the seven Central Armed Police Forces of India, and was raised in the wake of the 1965 War on 1 December 1965, “for ensuring the security of the borders of India and for matters connected there with”.

3. ‘Cyber Safe Women’ Initiative

• Maharashtra Government has launched a ‘Cyber Safe Women’ initiative.
• The initiative will help in educating women about how the web is used by anti-social elements and child predators to commit various types of crimes.

• Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation has launched ‘Damini’ helpline service for the safety of the women passengers.

1. New President of Guinea-Bissau

2. World Braille Day

• World Braille Day is annually celebrated on January 4, the birthday of Braille inventor, Louis Braille.
• The day recognizes the contributions of Louis Braille in helping blind and visually impaired people to read and write.

3. New Delhi World Book Fair

• The 28th edition of New Delhi World Book Fair will focus on how Mahatma Gandhi influenced generations of writers through his writings.

1. KVIC’s first silk processing plant

• Khadi and Village Industries Commission has opened its first Patola Saree silk processing plant at Surendranagar in Gujarat.

• The Khadi and Village Industries Commission is a statutory body formed in April 1957 by the Government of India, under the Act of Parliament, ‘Khadi and Village Industries Commission Act of 1956’.

2. Flipkart under DAY-NULM scheme

• Government of India has signed MoU with Flipkart for selling the products made by women self-help groups under DeendayalAntyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission
• Flipkart established: October 2007 || Headquarter of Flipkart: Bengaluru.
• National Urban Livelihoods Mission (NULM) is renamed as DeenDayalAntyodaya Yojana-(DAY-NULM) and in Hindi as – RashtriyaShahriAajeevika Mission. The mission would also aim to providing the shelter equipped with essential services to the urban homeless in a phased manner.

1. SunitaLakra retires

• Indian women’s hockey team defender Sunita Lakra has announced her retirement from international hockey.
• The Indian women’s national field hockey team is ranked 9th in the FIH World Rankings. From February 2018, The state government of Odisha started sponsoring Indian national field hockey team, both men and women team.

2. Indian mountaineer Malavath Poorna

• Indian mountaineer Malavath Poorna has accomplished another feat by conquering Mt. Vinson Massif, Antarctica’s highest mountain peak.
• Malavath Poorna is the youngest girl to have climbed the world’s highest mountain Mt. Everest 5 years ago
• She has become the first and youngest tribal woman in the world to set foot on the six tallest mountain peaks across six continents.
• She scaled Mt Everest (Asia, 2014), Mt. Kilimanjaro (Africa, 2016), Mt. Elbrus (Europe, 2017), Mt. Aconcagua (South America, 2019), Mt. Cartsnez (Oceania region, 2019), and now Mt. Vinson Massif (Antarctica, 2019).
