1. Raised Rs.6 cr for families of martyrs: Akshay
- Bollywood star Akshay Kumar requested people to donate for the families of martyrs via the govt’s Bharat Ke Veer initiative.
- He later said that within minutes they raised close to Rs.6.5 cr
2. Delhi makes Child Lock stickers mandatory for cabs
- The Delhi govt made it mandatory for all the cabs to have at least 4 stickers informing passengers to disable the Child Lock System before the journey starts.
- The Delhi Commission for Women observed that the possibility of crime against women increases as they cannot open the doors once the lock is activated.
3. Odisha gets state-run medical college
- Odisha got its first state-run medical college, SLNMCH in 54 years.
- It was inaugurated by the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
4. Delhi HC imposes fine of Rs.5K on Kejriwal
- The Delhi High Court imposed a fine on Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal for filing a late reply in Arun Jaitley defamation case.
- The Union Minister had filed the case alleging Kejriwal made false and defamatory statements against him that harmed his reputation .
International News
1. N Korea threats may lead to planetary catastrophe: Putin
- Russian President Vladamir Putin has warned that pressure of sanctions against N Korea could lead to a global, planetary catastrophe and a huge loss to human life.
- He urged a peaceful talk to solve the North Korean crisis and added that North Korea won’t drop the nuclear programme unless it feels secure
2. India, China are each other’s major neighbours : Chinese President
- During bilateral talks with PM Narendra Modi, Chinese President Xi Jinping said the countries are two of the world’s largest and emerging countries.
- He further added that a healthy and stable relationship between the two countries serves the interests of the people on both sides.
3. Iranian spiritual leader sentenced to death
- The court imposed death sentence on Mohammed Ali Taheri,the founder of the spiritual group Erfan Halgheh for the second time.
- He was sentenced to 5 years in prison for insulting Islamic sanctities.
4. US returns Saddam Hussein’s stolen chess set to Iraq
- The chess set was one of the thousands of valuable antiques which were stolen from the Iraq museum in the aftermath of the US invasion of Iraq in 2003 .
- The US said that it remains committed to helping return stolen artifacts belonging to Iraq .
Business News
1.United Technologies to buy Rockwell Collins
- Jet-engine maker United Technologies has agreed to buy aircraft parts manufacturer Rockwell Collins for USD 30 billion.
- United Technologies said it will combine its aerospace business with Rockwell Collins to create a new unit called Collins Aerospace Systems.
2. Trading on MCX halted for 45 mins
- A technical glitch halted trading on Multi Commodity Exchange(MCX) for 45 mins .
- One of the reasons behind the issue could be migration to a new trading system.
3. Tata Motors President quits
- Tata Motors President and CTO Timothy Leverton decided to disengage from the services in the organisation.
- Leverton has been associated with Tata Motors since 2010.
Sports News
1. Pablo Carreno Busta reaches US Open 2017 semi-final
- Pablo Carreno Busta reached his first Grand Slam semi-final by beating No. 29 Diego Schwartzman of Argentina 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 at the U.S. Open on Tuesday.
- Carreno Busta has become the first man to face four qualifiers in a Grand Slam tournament during the Open era, which began in 1968.
2. India tour of England from July to September 2018
- They will play three T20Is, three ODIs and five Test matches starting from July 3.
- The first T20I is scheduled to take place at Old Trafford while the teams will then move to Cardiff and Bristol for the second and third T20Is respectively.
