1. Maha to drop seeds using helicopters for planting mangroves.

  • The Maharashtra government has announced plans to use helicopters to drop seeds for the plantation of Mangroves in mudflats and wetlands which are otherwise inaccessible by foot.
  • Notably, the cost of carrying out plantation by enterig mangrove areas is Rs.2lakh a hectare, which amounts Rs.2crore.

2. India begins exporting 1st consignment of diesel to Myanmar.

  • India has begun exporting its first consignment of 30 tonnes of high-speed diesel to Myanmar via land route.
  • This is part of PM Modi’s ‘Act East Policy’ and enhancing hydrocarbon trade with neighboring countries.

3. Gujarat government bans Blue Whale challenge.

  • The Gujarat Government banned Blue Whale Challenge in the state, citing increased incidents of suicide because of the game.
  • Notably, one death due to this game has been reported in the state.

International News

1. Trump scraps Obama government’s Dreamers program.

  • US president Donald Trump scrapped the dreamers program which aimed to protect 8 lakh immigrants illegally brought to US as Children.
  • The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals(DACA) program was formed by Barack Obama government in 2012.

2. India to grant free visa to Myanmar citizens: Modi.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that India will grant gratis visa to Myanmarese citizens wanting to visit the country.
  • Mr. Modi made the announcement during his joint press statement with State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi after the two leaders held wide ranging talks in Nay Pyi Taw.

3. Sushma Swaraj to attend Eastern Economic Forum in Russia.

  • External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj arrived in Russian port city of Vladivostok on a three-day visit to attend the third Eastern Economic Forum which will deliberate on pressing issues relating to global trade.
  • She will also hold bilateral talks with her Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov during which various issues relating to trade, investment and defense cooperation are likely to figure.

Business News

1. Government freezes bank accounts of more than 2 Lakh firms.

  • The finance ministry restricted directors of around 2,00,000 dormant companies struck off official records from accessing their firms’ bank accounts.
  • The companies have been removed from the records of the Registrar of Companies (RoC) under section 248 of the Companies Act.

2. Nasdaq to acquire analytics firm eVestment for $705mn.

  • US stock exchange operator Nasdaq is all set to buy investment analytics provider ‘eVestment’ for                 $705mn.
  • eVestment with its cloud-based services helps investors monitor market trends and make investment decisions which will boost Nasdaq’s market data service business.

3. Rs.20,000 fine for banks without Aadhaar enrolment centres.

  • Banks that fail to open Aadhaar enrollment centers in a stipulated 10% of branches till 30th September will be fines Rs.20,000 per uncovered branch every month, said UIDAI CEO Ajay Bhushan Pandey.
  • The extension of one month has been granted as many banks have sought additional time from the authority for setting up centers.

1. India wins silver in double trap at World Shotgun Championship.

  • India’s Ankur Mittal won silver medal in men’s double trap event at the ongoing ISSF World Shotgun Championship in Moscow.
  • In the junior category, 17-year-old Ahvar Rizvi also won a silver medal in the same event.

2. Gautam Gambhir to help Martyr’s daughter by bearing education cost.

  • Cricketer Gautam Gambhir on Tuesday said that he will support for life the educational expenses of Zohra, the five-year-old daughter of a policeman killed by militants in August.
  • “Zohra,I can’t put u 2 sleep wid a lullaby but I’ll help u 2 wake up 2 live ur dreams. Will support ur education 4 lifetime #daughterofIndia,” the cricketer tweeted.
