1. Delhi government to set up 1,000 mohalla clinics.

  • The Delhi government has announced plans to operationalise a total of 1,000 mohalla clinics in the city, with 250 such clinics commissioned in government schools.
  • This comes after 43-AAP MLAs camped outside Lieutenant Governor Anil baijal’s office demanding approval for the new project.

2. Vatican declares Mother Teresa a Patron saint of Calcutta.

  • The Vatican declared Mother Teresa a patron saint of the Archdiocese of Calcutta, 16 months after pope Francis declared her a saint.
  • Following this Mother Teresa’s name will be mentioned whenever people under the archdiocese pray.

3. India will help in developing Rakhine state.

  • India will help Myanmar in developing the crisis-hit Rakhine state, Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar announced.
  • The Rakhine state has been the centre of violence between Myanmar’s security forces and Rohingya Militants.

International News

1. Over 3.7 lakh sign petition to strip Suu Kyi of Nobel Prize.

  • Over 3.7lakh people have signed a petition calling for the Nobel Committee to revoke Aung San Suu Kyi’s Nobel prize.
  • This comes after allegations on Suu kyi stating she has done nothing to stop crime activities against humanity in Rakhine state.

2. India and Sri Lanka begins joint Naval Exercise SLINEX 2017.

  • Indian Navy and Sri Lankan Navy has begun the 2017 Sri Lanka-India exercise (SLINEX) at Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
  • The exercise will commence with Harbour Phase during which the participants will engage in professional, cultural and social interactions.

3. Indo-US Yudh Abhyas 2017.

  • A joint Military Exercis, Yudh Abhyas-2017 will be conducted at Joint Base Lewis Mcchord, Washington, US.
  • Exercise Yudh Abhyas is one of the largest joint running military training and defence corporation endeavors between India and US.

4. Mexico worst hit by 8.1 magnitude earthquake.

  • An earthquake of magnitude 8.1 has struck off the southern coast of Mexico.
  • After the earthquake, Tsunami waves up to 0.7 meters above tide level were recorded in Mexican cities Salina Cruz and Huatulco.

1. Nestle starts up first food safety institute in India.

  • Food Regulator FSSAI CEO Pawan Kumar Agarwal inaugurated Nestle’s first food safety institute in India at Manesar, Haryana.
  • The Nestle food safety institute will conduct training programmes on food safety management systems and testing methods.

2. Vivek Gonka elected as new Chairman of PTI.

  • Vivek Gonka, Chairman and MD of Express group was elected Chairman of Press Trust of India.
  • Mr. goenka succeeds Riyad Mathew, who is senior assistant editor and a member of the Manorma Management.

3. Airtel Business launches GST Advantage for SME’s.

  • Airtel Business, the Business to Business arm of Telecom major Bharti Airtel, has launched Airtel GST Advantage-a solution designed to enable small businesses and startups to file their GST returns.
  • Launched in partnership with Clear Tax, Airtel GST Advantage is being offered free to all existing Airtel Business customers.

Sports News
1. Sjoerd Marijne appointed as Chief coach of Men’s Hockey team.

  • Women’s national hockey coach Sjoerd Marijne was on named chief coach of the Indian men’s team.
  • Marijne replaced Roelant Oltmans, who was sacked after a few ordinary performances in the past few months.

2. Australia defeated Bangladesh to level series.

  • Australia beat Bangladesh by seven wickets in the second and final Test in Chittagong to level the series at 1-1 on Thursday.
  • Bangladesh were all out for 157 in their second innings on Thursday, setting Australia 86 to win the second and final test and level the series at Chittagong’s Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.
