2. Repression
• The action of subduing someone or something by force.
Usage: Students sparked off events that ended in brutal repression.
3. Onerous
• Of a task or responsibility involving a great deal of effort, trouble, or difficulty.
Usage: He found his duties increasingly onerous.
4. To a tee
• Perfectly or completely or exactly.
Usage: You look beautiful. That color really suits you to a tee.
5. Timorous
• Showing or suffering from nervousness or a lack of confidence. Timid by nature or revealing timidity.
Usage: The clash of egos in the struggle to achieve something bracingly innovative wasn’t for the timorous.
6. Redistricting
• Redistricting is the process of drawing electoral district boundaries in a country.
Usage: Redistricting takes place once a decade after the national census.
7. Resonant
• Deep, clear, and continuing to sound or reverberate.
Usage: A resonant speech moves you by bringing to mind all that is good in the world: family, friends, laughter.
8. Melting pot (In Politics)
• The melting pot is a monoculture metaphor for a heterogeneous society becoming more homogeneous
• The different elements “melting together” with a common culture, or vice versa, for a homogeneous society becoming more heterogeneous through the influx of foreign elements with different cultural backgrounds, possessing the potential to create disharmony within the previous culture.
Usage: His America is a peculiar kind of melting pot: “military, safari, Western, English riding,” he says, speaking of his perennial influences.
9. Due diligence
• Due diligence is the investigation or exercise of care that a reasonable business or person is expected to take before entering into an agreement or contract with another party, or an act with a certain standard of care.
Usage: You should exercise caution and perform due diligence on your vendors.
10. Bemuse
• Puzzle, confuse, or bewilder someone.
Usage: He was bemused by what was happening.
