Article Title: A women-only private island is not empowering – it is elitist

Article Summary

This article is about a woman only private island and the author believes that it does not empower women and in fact is elitist. A trip to the SuperShe Island in the Baltic Sea costs £3,500 and this rising trend of exclusive networking groups aimed at wealthy women sets back gender equality. The author is not against women-only spaces but she finds this trend of high-priced, women-only networking spaces disappointing, particularly as these often use feminism as a marketing device, talking about sisterhood while seeming only to care about bettering a few already wealthy women.

This is not what feminism is and these spaces only set back gender equality. If we analyze how we categorize women, it becomes apparent that most stereotypes revolve around men. There is a growing acceptance among women that they need to derive their energy not from men’s approval, but from themselves.
