While people may think that the educated lot behind the lofty glass walls are intelligent enough to make them immune to the logic-defying promises of the ever spurning breed of politicians, but that is far from the truth. The author says that these never-ending debates attract more and more people eager to argue their opinion – which not all may agree to. And this casual chat over coffee can sometimes flare up and spill into work and sour professional relationships. Just as leaders form an important part of the discussion so do political decisions and events. In this entire muddle, there are also people who care not a bit about what happens in their country but often get caught between the crossfire. The author says that it is natural for people to be concerned about events which have a deep bearing on their and their children’s future but this political activism does not translate into anything more meaningful than the debates. He says that this exercise is simply to divert their minds from their worldly problems so when something bad actually happens, they have a politician they can pin the blame on to. It is easier this way.
