Article Name:‘No kids for me, Thanks: I tied my tubes at 26’

By: ‘DoubleX Staff’

This article is one from the series of article that Slate has done by asking people the reason for being child free. The present article is on Monica Trombley living in New York. She has been married to someone who equally supports the idea of being child free. However, she states that despite living in a modern city and her right to have excess to all the facilities, doctors tried to talk her out off her decision to tie her tubes, which she did at the age of 26.

Summary:

There is a huge shift in people’s attitude in terms of having children. It is okay taking into consideration the freedom, but it skews the entire ratio of children and adults and it is important to have healthy ratio because it is the young who run the world. Perhaps, that is why there are more old people in some countries.

Recommendation 2 from ‘The Penny Hoarder’

Article Name:‘7 whacky things in your trash worth cash’

By: ‘Kyle Taylor’

The article is talking about seven such things that are in your trash already, but have the potential to generate cash for you. These seven things are ink cartridges, wine bottles and wine corks, old magazines, plastic coke bottles, unwanted coupons, moving boxes and food packaging. Article states that these things can be sold for as less as $1 to as much as $20. It has also listed the websites that you can use to sell your stuff.

Summary:

Of course these things can be sold for whatever money, but they can even be turned into something more creative and sold for even higher price .e.g. old magazines can be made into a pen holder or plastic bottles can be turned into magazine holders. And then these things can sold as a means of making wealth out of waste.

Recommendation 3 from ‘The Hindu’

Article Name:‘Learning for life’

By: ‘Soma Basu’

The article is talking about Colin Wagstaff who is the founder of Kings School in Tirunelveli district. He states that it is his privilege to work with poor children who are keen on learning. Article states that Kings School was founded in 2005 with just 5 orphaned children and now it has 2,000 students with 200 staff working. Article states that Kings school first began with a children’s village on an acre of land and after a survey in the area he gathered 120 normal and physically and mentally challenged students. It was the support that he provided to these children that the parents asked for a school and the dream developed.

Summary:

This is one of the inspiring stories that change everything in the way people think and behave. Well, at least, these people have made the beginning for the rest of us to follow. The best part in this story is that this man came from another country to work for our people, so why can’t we begin the work in our own little communities. And, it doesn’t need to be on these lines, it can be anything, like providing clean drinking water to all.
