I have been often introduced by friends as a ‘xenophobic’ to any new entrant to our small group. And sadly I have had to agreed to them. Bound my supposed chains of intellect, i am but a forlorn lamb when it comes to social gatherings and conversations. While writing this piece in the posh and comfortable surrounds which we know by the name of Barista, all I see around me is the din of everyday, playing abound all around me. Only one question comes to my mind: what am I doing here in this environment? A chronic introvert caught in the drudgery of maintaining social relations. All I wish is not be badgered by all these people around me and a stop to incessant demands that require me to converse socially with me.
Am I over-reacting or am I a chronically delusional being who can no longer take the demands of everyday life? What I might say here might sound as psycho-babble but I swear on my soul (whatever its worth) that whatever is say is precise truth.
My abject wretchedness is compensated by a headlong dive into an eclectic world offered by books and literature. Almost immuring myself into a cubbyhole, I discover the delights offered by Thoreau and Rumi, their wisdom is what keeps me alive and keeps the blood flowing in my views. It’s in the blitz of these words I find my peace, a catharsis of sorts takes place with every character these writers build, a sense of attachment is developed and I also lose track of the real world, lending myself an existence in the fictional world: a world not of my making but one made by all the great writers, a world I can intrude upon will and leave when I wish, a world which places no demands on me, a world where I live the way I desire and take any form I wish.
Such is the world of this introvert, one lived in the precincts of books, and not in the din of everyday life.
