Recommendation 1 from ‘Foreign Policy’

Article Name:”We’re sick of everyone who wears a military uniform being called a ‘hero’’

By: ‘Thomas E. Ricks’

The article states that use of the word has been devalued just for the reason that it is applied to almost everyone today. Article states that there are people who go ahead and do the courageous thing even when they know the dangers that lie ahead and there are those who do not and somehow this word is even being applied to them. Article states that value of the word hero has been devalued to adjust the ordinary and to encompass the extraordinary doesn’t seem fair anymore.

Summary:

Well, whatever is being said, might as well be true. However, there is nothing wrong in encompassing the ordinary in the realm of heroism. Everything is heroic in its own way, its just that the intensity of heroism in every act is different, but every act makes a difference in someone’s life.

Recommendation 2 from ‘Foreign Policy’

Article Name:‘Breaking the golden rule’

By: ‘Stephen M. Walt’

The article states that there are few policies/actions of the Obama administration that people fail to understand at all. One is Obama’s targeted assassination policy and another is cyber-warfare campaign against Iran. Article states that America should refrain from such policies or actions, as this way it breaks the golden rule of Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Because the time is not far when someone else will be doing the same thing to America, as it is doing.

Summary:

This principle not only works in small little things of life, but also international relations it seems. But, it stands true for today that if there has to be cooperation between countries, there has to be clean diplomacy. If these allegations of such warfare are actually true, as it seems, then America needs to be reminded that it does not have any right to.

The article states, more often than not students go in for career choices because they are safer options in terms of monetary returns, sometimes it is because their friends are in that field and sometimes their parents have asked them to take up that specific career option. However, the article states that such choices should be made while keeping talent and interest in mind. Further, the article also suggests that he student should do what he/she likes. And if there is a conflict in terms of interest and talent lying in the same field, then a middle way should be found.

Summary:

It only makes sense to choose one’s interest even if there is a conflict, instead of middle way. Anyone can take a middle way, but it takes strength to stay true to one’s interest otherwise person will only be lying to oneself for the rest of his/her life. Even worse, interest will only end up as a hobby that a person will pursue in his/her free time.
