Article Title: Imperfect and absurd, the modern literary heroine is the woman we need

Article Summary

This article talks about portrayal of women in fiction in a different light. Erstwhile Classic fiction has endured the image of the helpless but resourceful women in our minds with each succeeding generation, however, in this age of gender equality, the women of 21st century in a mood of non compliance are taking over the world of men. One notable characteristic of the modern heroine is that her flaws are not only centre stage, they are celebrated. The author says that there is also a recognition that female experience is as universal as male experience and the heroines of contemporary fiction reflect the rich diversity of female lives. Todays heroines are morally ambiguous and their behaviour unpredictable. Women who make their own rules are selling well in literary fiction too. The 21st-century heroine may be scarred, imperfect or absurd and while she may change in the course of the narrative, revealing strengths and strategies that surprise us, conformity is optional.
